Errors Abound
Revisado: 12-20-24
I love the Vikings and some of these stories are great - but I wish the author had asked an editor to proofread the book before publication. Too many obvious errors to count. It almost reads like an AI generated product.

Historia
Unfortunately, left unchecked, overthinking can easily become the number one hindrance to enjoying your life, overshadowing moments of joy and preventing you from fully embracing the present. Its relentless cycles trap you into a web of doubt–you can’t make decisions, you can’t take action, and you can’t find peace. Which is why you need a thorough step-by-step process to not only cut away the roots of overthinking, but also bounce back in life.

Good but Quite Repetitive
Revisado: 05-30-24
Solid ideas but it read like a series of 70 clipped responses to Chat GPT prompts or someone’s college thesis paper. Each concept was repeated 12 times as if it were new each time. Could make a great 2-page PDF.

Historia
Looking to some of the world's greatest thinkers and inspiring leaders, Brooks explores how, through internal struggle and a sense of their own limitations, they have built a strong inner character. Labor activist Frances Perkins understood the need to suppress parts of herself so that she could be an instrument in a larger cause. Dwight Eisenhower organized his life not around impulsive self-expression but considered self-restraint.

Opened my eyes
Revisado: 11-19-23
I had not thought much about the specific ways people of great character develop that strength. The author opened my eyes to what makes up the core of human character and contributes to a life truly well-lived in the cause of something greater than one’s self. The wide array of divergent examples (especially of supposedly “flawed” people) was my most favorite feature of this book.

Thoroughly Enjoyable and Honest
Revisado: 11-06-23
I have to admit that I bought this audiobook by accidentally hitting a button on the Audible app during a run and it was the best mistake I’ve made all year.
The author is not just wicked smart - he’s authentic and frank without being offensive or patronizing. I think the final chapter was the most impactful for me as he tied all of the science together with how critical it is to get our thinking straight in order to realize the true benefits of a longer life.
Loved the book and plan to recommend it to others.

Historia
Few figures in American politics have seen more and said less than Mitt Romney. An outspoken dissident in Donald Trump’s GOP, he has made headlines in recent years for standing alone against the forces he believes are poisoning the party he once led. Romney was the first senator in history to vote to remove from office a president of his own party. When that president’s supporters went on to storm the US Capitol, Romney delivered a thundering speech from the Senate floor accusing his fellow Republicans of stoking insurrection.

Decent & Flawed Guy - Not a lot new.
Revisado: 10-30-23
I enjoyed the book even if there wasn’t much new to learn.
Just like all of us, Mitt’s neither an angel nor Lucifer. He’s a politician first and foremost and the author demonstrates this fact without openly saying it as he details the “struggles” Mitt experiences by seemingly overthinking every decision.
I miss the good old days when people had rational conversations about this stuff and cared enough to learn from each other.
Recommend the book for those who have only heard about the Romney who’s portrayed over the last 6-8 years.

Best Book on Habits I’ve Seen Yet
Revisado: 10-02-23
I have read/listened to dozens of books that reference habit forming for success. For no good reason I had also resisted the urge to buy this book for years and now regret the wait.
Atomic Habits is the most straightforward, practical and crystallized approach I’ve seen. The author is very easy to follow and he doesn’t waste a lot of time on fluff. I Very Highly recommend this title.

Historia
As high achievers, we’ve been conditioned to believe that the path to success is paved with relentless work. That if we want to overachieve, we have to overexert, overthink, and overdo. That if we aren’t perpetually exhausted, we’re not doing enough. But lately, working hard is more exhausting than ever. And the more depleted we get, the more effort it takes to make progress. Stuck in an endless loop of “Zoom, eat, sleep, repeat”, we’re often working twice as hard to achieve half as much.

Historia
Baseball has been defaced and consumed by corporate America. As Moneyball-thinking and Ivy League graduates grabbed hold of the sport, the Astros set out to build a cost-efficient winning machine on the principles of the outside business world, squeezing every dollar out of every transaction, player and employee. In less than a decade, Astros general manager Jeff Luhnow helped revolutionize the game and create an environment that led to one of the worst cheating scandals in baseball history, a Shakespearean tragedy of innovation and failed change management.

Solid Example of Zero Character Leadership
Revisado: 03-09-23
Loved the level of detail and the unapologetic delivery. The Astros made their mark by showing the baseball world that character still matters. Even if they did so by showing what happens you win but utterly lack character. There’s a reason why quietly going along with cheating even taints the « good guys ».
