Engaging Story
Revisado: 02-17-25
This was an extremely engaging and enlightening read. I learnt very much about the tea-making process and the way of life of another people.
While the story was enjoyable, the end seemed disappointingly rushed; but I do love a happy ending, and it was exactly that.
I am considering reading other books by this author.

Ignorance is a privilege too
Revisado: 07-21-24
I am at a loss for descriptors for this story. The language, vocabulary, knowledge of the law, racism, medicine/diseases were far above what I expected in one novel. All that's left for me to add is, "Thank you for a refreshing and insightful read, a candid, bold and brave approach to the issue of racism, and a crash course in Medicine 101." This is my second book by this author and I think she has become my number 1.
I purchased this novel a few years ago and couldn't read it as I lost a child soon after so I also lost my passion for novels. I am glad I picked it back up. The only issue is this book is un-put-down-able so everything else suffers for about 12-14 hours.

Historia
At the end of the Second World War, Cyril Conroy combines luck and a single canny investment to begin an enormous real estate empire, propelling his family from poverty to enormous wealth. His first order of business is to buy the Dutch House, a lavish estate in the suburbs outside of Philadelphia. Meant as a surprise for his wife, the house sets in motion the undoing of everyone he loves. The story is told by Cyril’s son Danny, as he and his older sister, the brilliantly acerbic and self-assured Maeve, are exiled from the house where they grew up by their stepmother.

Painful Read
Revisado: 06-28-24
This book had me in tears.....for the many wasted hours that I'll never get back. I don't understand the hype over this book. It was painful to finish reafing it. This story has no plot; just random and ordinary events that go no where.
I held on in the first few chapters, expecting the story to build up, waiting for the peripety. I got nothing - no inspiration, no entertainment - but mundane everyday occurrences. I certainly would not recommend this book. I am clise to tears over my wasted time, time I could have put into my studies. This is my first Ann Patchett and while I may decide to give her a second chance, I have no great expectations.

Are you weary? Worn out by the bills that keep stacking, a virus that keeps raging, or a heart that keeps aching? If so, the book of Esther brings welcome news: Relief will come! To be clear, you didn't ask for this struggle. You want to get past it. You don't know how much longer you can hold up. But what if God is with you in this difficult season? When life seems off the rails, remember this truth: the minute you bow your head to pray is the moment God lifts his hand to help.

God's has an arsenal of peripeties - Divine Reversals - for my future
Revisado: 06-22-24
This book was everything I needed for such a time as now. It confirms a lot of messages the Holy Spirit has placed on my heart in the past few months, so now I will sit back and await God's transformation of my sorrows into joy. He will work everything out for my good and for His glory.
I particularly liked that the book was only approximately 4 hours short. Not that it was boring so I couldn't wait to finish; I just needed to hear how it ended. In fact, it was so captivating - as I have come to expect from Max - that I stayed up late into the night to listen.
Thank God for His blessed assurance and Max's ministry. I love you God.

Have we experienced the pinnacle of Holy Spirit power? Has the Lord poured out the full measure of His presence on the earth? Is what we've seen all there is? The devil wants you to think so. And just like he did with Abraham, he's working hard to stop you short of God’s miracle promise. He wants you to settle for an "Ishmael" when your supernatural "Isaac" awaits.

This book is prophetic
Revisado: 02-09-24
This book contains a lot of the thoughts the Holy Spirit has laid on my heart in the past 3 years. I was shocked and thrilled to hear the author repeat some of those thoughts such as raising the dead. I sincerely believe that we will see many of those miracles in the near future. I am one of those chosen with the end-time message. Thank you Pastor RT for such a courageous and encouraging word. May God bless your ministry

Why does the Bible contain so many stories of hurting people? Though their situations vary, their conditions don't. They have nowhere to turn. Yet before their eyes stands a never-say-die Galilean who majors in stepping in when everyone else steps out. Lucado reminds us that the purpose of these portraits isn't to tell us what Jesus did-but rather to remind us what Jesus still does.

I started and stopped listening 3 times
Revisado: 09-09-23
I disliked the story at the beginning of the 2 sisters who were kidnapped. Going through depression currently that is the last story I needed as I kept asking where was God. But as I read on I was so encouraged by the many encounters with Jesus and how He responded in compassion. Max Lucado is actually my favourite spiritual author or storyteller. I have read several big his books and follow his teachings online. Attending one of his services in person is on my bucket list. Any one feeling down and out will feel better after reading this book.

Slow read compared to Murmur of Bees.
Revisado: 03-21-22
I excitedly purchased this book because I couldn't get Murmur of Bees out of my mind for days after reading it. But this one is a slow read for me. I appreciate the new perspective captured in this story of Germans resisting the war and Hitler - which I had never considered before; I thought all Germans were wicked. I am only half way through this book after reading for weeks now and it feels long and drawn out. I read Murmur of Bees in 2 days. I will finish the book but was hoping it would be unputdownable like MOB.

Historia
From the day that old Nana Reja found a baby abandoned under a bridge, the life of a small Mexican town forever changed. Disfigured and covered in a blanket of bees, little Simonopio is for some locals the stuff of superstition, a child kissed by the devil. But he is welcomed by landowners Francisco and Beatriz Morales, who adopt him and care for him. As he grows up, Simonopio becomes a cause for wonder to the Morales family, because when the uncannily gifted child closes his eyes, he can see what no one else can - visions of all that’s yet to come, both beautiful and dangerous.

Very moving and touching story
Revisado: 01-19-21
This book started off as a slow and confusing read for me. There were so many characters' names to remember but it picked up a few chapters into the book and I felt drawn into the story and then captured to the point I lamented reaching the final few chapters.
What a great moving and touching story. The descriptions were so crisp and clear that I could imagine every scene and event.
The accents were beautiful and complemented the story. I learnt some history as well. Is it ironic that I read this story during a pandemic and it references the Spanish flu/pandemic of the 1800's.
Great read. Have your handkerchief nearby.

Very Comforting and Encouraging Read
Revisado: 08-14-20
I love how the writer presents the Holy Spirit as such a personal and personable person. She provides great insight into His leading role in our lives. Having developed a close relationship with the Holy Spirit myself, I was able to relate to much of her teachings and personal encounters.
The narrator has the perfect most soothing voice for this teaching.
As with all of Stormie's books, I was very encouraged by this one. I plan to read it again.

A Good Read
Revisado: 07-17-20
This story left me feeling sad, although a bit predictable. I enjoyed her other book a lot more (The Storyteller's Secret); however, this story was a reflective one of strength, forgiveness, healing and renewed beginnings. Great description but too lengthy in certain chapters. Unlike the other book where I did not want it to end at all, I couldn't wait for this one to come to an end.
