Not as engaging as I'd hoped. There were interesting stories, but they weren't tied together very well.

Historia
The latest groundbreaking tome from Tim Ferriss, the number-one New York Times best-selling author of The 4-Hour Workweek. For the last two years, I've interviewed more than 200 world-class performers for my podcast, The Tim Ferriss Show. The guests range from super celebs (Jamie Foxx, Arnold Schwarzenegger, etc.) and athletes (icons of powerlifting, gymnastics, surfing, etc.) to legendary Special Operations commanders and black-market biochemists. For most of my guests, it’s the first time they’ve agreed to a two-to-three-hour interview.

Lots of great tips spread throughout the book
Revisado: 04-15-24
Lots of great tips spread throughout the book most of the narrators were pretty good, though Tim Ferriss was an awkward narrator and should've had somebody talk for him better to reflect the high standards he's going for.

Historia
J. Robert Oppenheimer was one of the iconic figures of the 20th century, a brilliant physicist who led the effort to build the atomic bomb but later confronted the moral consequences of scientific progress. When he proposed international controls over atomic materials, opposed the development of the hydrogen bomb, and criticized plans for a nuclear war, his ideas were anathema to powerful advocates of a massive nuclear buildup during the anti-Communist hysteria of the early 1950s.

Wanted to hear more about the science. The voice changed from time to time. Though I'm sure it is difficult narrating a book this long.

Ben Horowitz offers essential advice on building and running a startup - practical wisdom for managing the toughest problems business school doesn’t cover, based on his popular ben’s blog. This book could’ve been way better.
Revisado: 11-30-21
Given the high level of success by the author, I was expecting more. Also, I don’t think it’s appropriate to use the N-word multiple times in a book. Even if you’re quoting a song. Oh another thing I didn’t like was the narrator changing dialect going from speaking normally to speaking like a gangster. It just didn’t make any sense to me.

Historia
Artificial intelligence does the seemingly impossible - driving cars, trading stocks, and teaching children. But facing the sea change that AI will bring can be paralyzing. How should companies set strategies, governments design policies, and people plan their lives for a world so different from what we know? In Prediction Machines, three eminent economists recast the rise of AI as a drop in the cost of prediction. With this single, masterful stroke, they lift the curtain on the AI-is-magic hype and show how basic tools from economics provide clarity about the AI revolution and a basis for action by CEOs, managers, policy makers, investors, and entrepreneurs.

Maybe this is good for somebody in their 60s 70s? this book didn’t get into any deep detail about smart learning or artificial intelligence. The majority of it is common knowledge. Really disappointed.

Great concepts; though too charged for me.
Revisado: 09-04-21
What I liked:
Raised important issues and inequalities in society and the workplace.
Many heartbreaking stories. Good to have them exposed.
I am very glad a book like this exists.
What I disliked:
The angry sounding narrator in the audiobook. I felt like someone was going to pop out of my phone and mace me for being male.
The male stereotypes were sometimes too angry and I didn’t know what to do with them.
Other notes:
Both my mom and dad took time off work to be there for me when I most needed it. I didn’t get that sense from the author. She didn’t really share fun stories of being with her kids. I just can’t relate to that, so I connected with the book less.
I think the Making of a Manager is way more balanced and helpful for all genders.
In the future, I may read the physical version of this book. Maybe my experience will be different.

Historia
For David Goggins, childhood was a nightmare--poverty, prejudice, and physical abuse colored his days and haunted his nights. But through self-discipline, mental toughness, and hard work, Goggins transformed himself from a depressed, overweight young man with no future into a US Armed Forces icon and one of the world's top endurance athletes. The only man in history to complete elite training as a Navy SEAL, Army Ranger, and Air Force tactical air controller, he went on to set records in numerous endurance events.

Feel sorry for his ex-wives and child
Revisado: 02-18-20
David Goggins has accomplished amazing feats and is inspiring at many levels; however, I was hoping for a bit more intellectual content. The book was heavy on athletic story after athletic story. If I was an athlete I'm sure I'd feel differently. I would have preferred if he toned down the self-aggrandizing.
I didn't like that got married and divorced three times and he doesn’t appear close to his kid, possibly replicating the errors of his father. The real challenge is human relationships, in my opinion, not physical feats. I didn't like that the author used the word "p***y" as this is degrading to women - though I'm sure he didn't mean it that way.
The stories are well told with good use of the English language; however, when I hear David speak, it baffles me that he could have written this book. In the book he takes credit for writing the piece; however, it seems less likely to me.
Lastly, I thought his ego was a little too elevated. He stated in the book that "nobody does it like he does it". Indicating that he is special and asked you out to other people to make himself feel better. But this contradicts what he says several other places in the book. The book goes out of his way to show that Goggins is a “bad ass”, but this seems more of an attempt to beat down the ghost of his father, as if he was still fighting his 6-year old self.

Historia
Through decades of martial arts and meditation practice, Peter Ralston discovered a curious and paradoxical fact: that true awareness arises from a state of not knowing. Even the most sincere investigation of self and spirit, he says, is often sabotaged by our tendency to grab too quickly for answers and ideas as we retreat to the safety of the known.

Extremely verbose and wandering. After 18 hrs I walked away with little. I’m sure the author and narrator worked hard, so I feel bad writing this review. And it looks like many people loved it. Maybe I’m just not as smart as others here.

Difficult to read/relate unless Christian
Revisado: 11-28-16
A Christian book full of mysticism. Hard for me to read as a scientist who has a Hindu background. If I put the God stuff aside, there were some really good quotes. Especially in the last two or three chapters. I thought the book was a fair price for the money. I could see how those following western religion would like this book. Narrator's voice didn't quite match the content; however, her performance was good.
