After finishing this, I have read all of his books. Great story teller, emotion is clear even when physically reading - he cared for Mrs Kennedy and always will. It’s so neat to hear the BTS of so many of their trips and conversations. So grateful Clint decided to share these stories and photos.

enough with the dead parent trope

Overall, the story is alright. It’s a SMUT book so I’m not sure why people are gasping at the language….its porn with a plot. It’s not rocket science to figure out what kind of language they’ll be using. You shouldn’t be letting a romance book play around your kids anyway.

Aside from that, my biggest complaint is the dead parent trope. As someone with dead parents, it’s honestly beyond annoying that every girl in every book seems to have dead parents and it makes her broken until she learns she isn’t from a guy.

It’s also creepy that the she’s nearly having a mental breakdown from seeing pictures of her parents and then the characters nearly have sex right then. Weird timing and it tells me the writer doesn’t really understand grief, which honestly I’m thankful for.

There are definitely better Lauren Blakely books out there, but it wasn’t bad. I would have liked a little more depth, but it was okay.

At this point, many are familiar with the story either from the media of the two newer shows of from another version of the story. I liked this one a lot because of the background it gave on all the important players that you simply don’t have time for in a show or movie.

Knowing the legal background of Don, how Candy and Pat met, how Betty and Alan met, it really adds to why people function the way they do.

There are TOO MANY portions of this book where the author/narrator literally just reads the script.

Talking about certain lines is alright but if I wanted to hear the script, I’d watch the show over.

I expected MUCH more behind the scenes and other info that you generally hear in these type of books. Very disappointed.

There’s also a mistake in chapter 6 I believe about who dates Gabrielle Union’s character. It’s not Ross.

Let me start by saying, I’ve worked for the state in prosecution and currently work in criminal defense so I feel that I’m coming to this book as unbiased as you really can.

(1) in chapter 4, Jose (probably just worded poorly I’m hoping) essentially states that he has handled every type of case from a simple misdemeanor to high profile felony, not a big deal. What he says that is a big deal and just overall offensive is that domestic violence cases are basically nothing and affect the defendant in worse ways. No, they don’t. Even when I work with defendants in partner assault cases, the victim is the priority. It was a disgusting comment made by him.

(2) the bashing of every person involved with the case. I get it, you don’t like some cops, you don’t like some of the attorneys but to bash every single one tells me a lot more about Jose than anyone else, especially how he tries to trash Jeff Ashton and call him mental - WHAT? That was disgusting.

(3) if you build your entire case on the word of a liar and somehow explain away every piece of evidence with some form of conspiracy that PD and the DAO were out to get Casey, your case sucks and you’re a lunatic. The FBI were not out to get her, the state was not out to get her. I’m aware there are bad apples in law enforcement, BUT the role of the state is to serve justice not to pick a random person and go after them with nearly every resource.

(4) the EGO and INFERIORITY COMPLEX are real. It was difficult to make it through the book. A lion never needs to state they are a lion.

(5) Jose states he has had clients that he knowingly has let plead guilty to crimes they didn’t know or maintain their innocence - what kind of lawyer allows their clients to do this? I’ve personally seen attorneys recuse themselves from cases because of this issue. He later states he couldn’t let Casey plead to anything if she maintained her innocence to him - what’s different about her than his other clients?

(6) Jose quite literally states that he was angry that one of the scientists did their job because it gave the prosecution a theory of their case.

Something that I keep in my mind when working a defense case, especially a victim case. It’s not my job to get the client off of charges, but to provide adequate representation, get a fair deal and keep the state honest. I think Jose quite literally brags about getting Casey off, whether or not he believes she’s guilty or not. The entire book has an extreme ‘woe is me and Casey’ feel and I think I came into this extremely unbiased.

I honestly grabbed this book because the title was interesting, it was included in my membership and it was very “what could it hurt?” And I am so happy I grabbed it. It’s not the typical type of book I tend listen to but I honestly learned a lot. It had humor, information and breaks downs of information I’ve never had a good understanding of. I’ll be looking into other books written by this author.

Truly an incredible author. The third book of his I have read. It is written with such poise and collection that you unfortunately can feel like you were there in the presidential motorcade in 1963. Truly incredible, looking forward to future pieces of work from Mr. Hill.

This book was incredible. The story is exquisitely written, the performance was great. My only critique of the performance was the voice of Thomas Sharpe being a tad too ‘forced’, but it in no way too away from the book.

There was a twist and turn at every corner, had a different ending than I had in my head, very impressed and satisfied.

Whether you’re a self-proclaimed historian, an actual historian, or just love the idea of Jackie and Jack- this book is for you.

Thought the narrated voice is much younger than Clint Hill, the overall voice is so comforting and you can truly feel the excitement in the words about Hill’s experiences with Jackie.

The fun behind the stories, the pain in the words about the events in Dallas. It’s amazing. Cannot recommend enough. Also look at this other books, including one coming out in 2022.
