Historia
This journal of the invasion, a collection of Andrey Kurkov's writings and broadcasts from Kyiv, is a remarkable record of a brilliant writer at the forefront of a twenty-first-century war. Andrey Kurkov has been a consistent satirical commentator on his adopted country of Ukraine. His most recent work, Grey Bees, is a dark foreshadowing of the devastation in the eastern part of Ukraine in which only two villagers remain in a village bombed to smithereens. The author has lived in Kyiv and in the remote countryside of Ukraine throughout the Russian invasion.

Good information, Intolerable narrator.
Revisado: 11-18-24
Kurkov is a genius and his writing excellent. Sadly, the narrator destroys the story. He reads as if to small children, attempts (very poorly) some accents, doesn't understand dates and even reads "HR576" instead of 576 Hryvnia. He would do a good job reading a story book, but i couldn't tolerate listening (even for the excellent text) after the second chapter. Hoping for a new narrator!

No Typhus . . .
Revisado: 05-19-23
I purchased the book to hear the story "Typhus" but was disappointed to find it was not included in this recording. I thoroughly enjoyed "Terror" but . . . . that wasn't what i was looking for. The search continues!!

The Dyslexic Advantage (Revised and Updated)

Historia
Drs. Brock and Fernette Eide use their impressive backgrounds in neurology and education to debunk the standard deficit-based approach to dyslexia. People typically define "dyslexia" as a reading and spelling disorder. But through published research studies, clinical observations, and interviews with dyslexic individuals, the Eides prove that these challenges are not dyslexia's main features but are instead trade-offs resulting from a different pattern of brain organization and information processing that has powerful advantages.

A must listen for anyone w/ a dyslexic in their lives 📚

Inspiring and excellent resource
Revisado: 05-01-23
Excellent resource packed with fascinating scientific findings that are easy for the layperson to understand. I read the first edition of DA with a highlighter and thought I knew the information quite well, but this updated edition has so much more. The revisions demonstrate noteworthy advances made in the understanding of dyslexia itself (significant thanks to the work of the authors) and how important it is to cultivate and appreciate dyslexic minds in this world.
The Dyslexic Advantage is inspiring, interesting and very easy to listen. (Though I need to get out my highlighter again and take notes in the hard copy as well--so much to learn!)
Highly recommended for those who are interested in neuroscience and especially anyone who experiences the advantages of dyslexia in their daily lives.

Russian Language Ukrainian Tales . . .
Revisado: 02-02-19
This is a fine recording, but was very disappointed to find that the stories are not in Ukrainian, but in Russian language. My purpose was to listen to Ukrainian and improve my language skills. Unfortunately, this was not possible.
The Russian language recording is done well.

You can't beat John Erickson!
Revisado: 01-03-13
What did you love best about The Case of the Vampire Cat?
We love all the Hank the Cowdog books and even though i love to read--John Erickson does a MUCH better job than i ever could. Our whole family (including a 16 year old and even my husband) listens to these books on long car trips. Everyone enjoys them. The sound effects and plays on words are what we love best.
Which character – as performed by John R. Erickson – was your favorite?
Drover is always my favorite, but the Vampire Cat herself is a close tie in this book.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Even though these are kids books, they really make you think. Lots of plays on words and human psychology
