I am very fond of her characters. Her stories always take down with humor and irony, some pillar of society and the love interests are very enjoyable as well.

An incredible piece of work
Revisado: 10-17-22
I am an avid Jess Kidd reader. Bringing a well researched historical event and the people involved, to life and to tell these stories through the senses and experiences of two children -with such beautiful prose- feels very intimate and fascinating. Their fierce efforts to survive and thrive, their attachments, the moments where the barrier of time evaporates momentarily - all heart aching and riveting. I loved it. She is a superb crafter of characters. I love the old men in her books. To this reader, the characters and their motivations are drawn with remarkable compassion and depth. I highly recommend this book.

Historia
A skeleton is found in a shallow grave in the churchyard. But this was not an official burial. The victim was murdered decades ago. At the same time, Detective Nikki Galena and her team are investigating the brutal slaying of local businesswoman Madeline Prospero. She was a member of an exclusive and secretive drinking club called The Briar Patch. But they've got no suspects and no one is telling them the truth. Meanwhile, the buried skeleton leads them on a trail to the village of Quintin Eaudyke. This is a troubled place. In the late 70s and 80s a reign of terror was unleashed.

Surprisingly smart and well written

I thought this would be a basic woman in jeopardy thriller but it is well written with a sufficiently twisty plot that was much darker than I expected.

As dusk approaches a small Dublin suburb in the summer of 1984, mothers begin to call their children home. But on this warm evening, three children do not return from the dark and silent woods. When the police arrive, they find only one of the children gripping a tree trunk in terror, wearing blood-filled sneakers, and unable to recall a single detail of the previous hours. Lives up to the hype
Revisado: 08-16-21
I’d heard a lot about how amazing this book was and all of the best book lists it made. I was ready to not believe it. To roll my eyes. But it really is a good book and it carves out an interesting place between literary fiction and police procedural. There’s plenty written about this series by vastly better reviewers so who am I. But personally I have never read anything quite like it. I’m a voracious reader of everything from Agatha Christie to Henning Mankell. This is well written, emotional ride.
Is it perfect? Nope. Overwritten in places and I beat the protagonists to some plot points. But I was absolutely, completely immersed. I had all the feels from the first moment to the last.

Historia
When editor Susan Ryeland is given the manuscript of Alan Conway's latest novel, she has no reason to think it will be much different from any of his others. After working with the best-selling crime writer for years, she's intimately familiar with his detective, Atticus Pünd, who solves mysteries disturbing sleepy English villages. An homage to queens of classic British crime such as Agatha Christie and Dorothy Sayers, Alan's traditional formula has proved hugely successful.

A Mystery embedded in a mystery
Revisado: 06-09-21
I like the way there’s a double whodunit going on here. The unfinished novel twist works well and I liked the way the details between the “fictional “ mystery start to merge with the actual murder.
Overall I think the author manages to pull off a complex idea with a nod to Agatha Christie. I’m taking away a star because I guessed the actual murderer very quickly, but there were plenty of twisty angles I didn’t see coming.

Powerful beautiful moving book
Revisado: 01-27-21
Professor Kendi’s works are essential readings in my opinion. For me, being proactively antiracist is a daily loving practice of self discovery, openness education and activism, of self observation, striving to recognize and dismantle the architecture of my own racism.Understanding that racism is a murderous tool set in motion out of self interest of a small minority in order to control the vast majority is an extremely powerful lens that helps shape my activism and daily conversations with myself and others. What a moving very human account of this brilliant man’s life and work thus far.
