In this compilation of the five books in the best-selling Lineage of Grace series by Francine Rivers, we meet the five women whom God chose - Tamar, Rahab, Ruth, Bathsheba, and Mary. Each was faced with extraordinary - even scandalous - challenges. Each took great personal risk to fulfill her calling. Each was destined to play a key role in the lineage of Jesus Christ, the savior of the World.

Another great Historical Fiction
Revisado: 08-30-24
Unfortunately, the narrator was not very good. I pushed through the mispronounced words and flaws in the editing where whole paragraphs were repeated. I really wish more care was taken to find a quality narrator like other books written by this author. I will likely purchase a copy to read again. Alas is the lyrics and feeling of the worship songs, and not the choir director's voice that matters.
These stories were very meaningful. Francine is a great historical fiction writer and did a great job retelling these biblical stories and offering new perspectives for the woman's point of view. I will likely read again.

Historia
A drug cartel pours into a gap left by twin terror attacks, amassing invincible weapons in a push to dominate Southwest America. But no matter how powerful his tanks and machine guns, no weapon can force trust with the people closest to him. Nor can military force alone exterminate the relentless spirit of America, which is anything but dead.

Saga- not as good as the first two
Revisado: 06-27-23
Too much unbelievable saga in this story. The performance was good. It was just a bad script.

I hoped for a great historical fiction. I struggled to finish this sappy romantic fiction.

Historia
It was an accident. It was dark, it was raining, Alison had only had two drinks. And the other car ran the stop sign. But Alison finds herself trapped under the crushing weight of grief and guilt, feeling increasingly estranged from her husband, Charlie, who has his own burdens. He's in a job he doesn't love so that Alison can stay at home with the kids (and why isn't she more grateful for that?); he has a house in the suburbs and a long commute to and from the city.

Cliche, cliche, cliche
Revisado: 02-19-19
Story was mediocre at best. Severely lacked character development. Narcissistic and selfish choices lead to predictable disfunctional ending for everyone involved.

Historia
Geesje de Jonge crossed the ocean at age 17 with her parents and a small group of immigrants from the Netherlands to settle in the Michigan wilderness. Fifty years later, in 1897, she's asked to write a memoir of her early experiences as the town celebrates its anniversary. Reluctant at first, she soon uncovers memories and emotions hidden all these years, including the story of her one true love.

Great story, but exhausting narration.
Revisado: 06-21-17
I wish the overly melodramatic, romance novel beginning was not so drawn out. Push through the narration and melodrama. Eventually the story comes together in the classic Lynne Austin style. A beautiful portrait of real love. Nothing is what it seems. Nothing is wrapped up neat and tidy, though some parts can be guessed, there is a master plan at work.

Historia
"Thank goodness you're such a plain child. You'll have to rely on your wits." So went the words of Grandma Bebe. And for all of my growing-up years, I scoffed at the beauty of my sister and what I saw as her meaningless existence. But my wits hadn't served me well in this instance, for here I was, in jail. And while I could have seen it as carrying on the family tradition (Grandma Bebe landed in jail for her support of Prohibition), the truth is, my reasons for being here would probably break her heart."

Good story but annoying performance
Revisado: 12-18-12
Would you try another book from Lynn Austin and/or Pam Turlow?
Lynn Austin- yes, Pam Turlow- no
Who was your favorite character and why?
I liked the characters, but it was very hard to think about how they SHOULD have sounded with the narration.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
She used a sickening sweet, melodramatic & child like voice that just irritated throughout a good story.
Do you think Though Waters Roar needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
The performance was so bad that I stopped and started the reading several times over many weeks. I am currently forcing myself past the last half.
Any additional comments?
Such a shame, I usually enjoy Lynn Austin's books & have listened to many titles before.

Good story, BUT I wish the performance was better.
Revisado: 09-19-12
What did you love best about Hidden Places?
The story was good. Not a deep drama, but some realistic circumstances mixed with fanciful imagination.
Who was your favorite character and why?
I liked Aunt Batty. Despite her being presented as crazy, she added grounding to the story.
How could the performance have been better?
The voice of the reader was too cutsie & over dramatic. It was hard for me to connect with the real emotions the characters were working through. It felt very much like the reading one would hear during story hour for a children's book. Very distracting.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
no
