The Four Immeasurables - the cultivation of loving-kindness, compassion, empathetic joy, and equanimity - is a rich suite of practices that open the heart, counter the distortions in our relationships to ourselves, and deepen our relationships to others. Alan Wallace presents a unique interweaving of teachings on the Four Immeasurables with instruction on meditative quiescence, or shamatha practice, to empower the mind. This book includes both guided meditations and lively discussions on the implications of these teachings for our life.

Revisado: 07-26-22
I feel like I have been listening to a twin brother that I don’t have. mr. Wright does what I have been doing for a couple of years now; using introspection and intuitive insight to find the best pieces of information from those that came before, while discarding the rest, and discarding it with prejudice or in terms of modern day living.
Unfortunately, few of the things discussed in this book were “new“ to me, but I seriously cannot fathom a better introduction to the fascinating “religion“ that is Buddhism. To the discerning, intellectual, and critically thinking mind, I can think of no better way to begin your path. Good luck, be calm, and be kind.

Great content, But it was a great effort to deal with the narration
Revisado: 05-28-22
I do not believe any of the narrators that I heard were actual human beings reading. now it could be actual people that have provided a catalog of words, and those words are used to construct a narration, but there are so many terrible mistakes that caused me to have to rewind and listen five or six times so that I could get the original sentence understood.
Commas in the wrong places, pauses where there shouldn’t be any, and always seeming to happen right in the middle of a complex concept.
there are actual mistakes, where the same thing is repeated two or more times; it’s all just very awkward and it keeps me from zeroing in on what is being said.
The very first narrator was the most difficult and caused me to have to listen to so many things over and over and over again.

An important notion that Søren Kierkegaard explored is Øieblikket, translated as "the moment" or "the blink of an eye". It consists of an actual experience in the individual’s life, yet it cannot be understood as a mere link in the chain of successive moments.

@ least I was 🧠 enough to not waste my time again
Revisado: 04-25-21
I was dumb enough to buy both book before I listen to either. I would have been dumb enough to listen to the entire first book, which was nothing more ban rudimentary instruction on different aspects of psychology. very little in the book had anything to do with the title of the book. Over 35 minutes in this other book, it's already clear this is more of the same.
would you like to know what a personality test is? Covered.
would you like to know why personality tests are used? Covered.
would you like to know how many different tests are used, and the efficacy of the same? Covered.
does minutiae like that entertain you? Well then you will love this book. if, however, you would like this book to actually cover, in detail preferably, the subject matter indicated by the title, do what I'm doing and go ahead and head over to the refund area. As I type this, with the book still playing in the background, it is currently listing off all of the different ways this knowledge will help you - I'm at 45-ish minutes in a less than 4 hour book, and I've learned literally nothing, and certainly nothing related to the title.
I give 1 star (to always make it 2 stars TOTAL) because writing is hard - but I was REAL TEMPTED to jack that star away, because copying objective, technical crap from psychology textbooks and research studies = not quite as hard.
As far the quality of the writing itself? Well - book apparently wants to help you with your "job life". This little nugget is located in a chapter titled: "HOW CAN READ PEOPLE".
'Nuff said. 👎👎

I went review hunting, I was wondering if other people thought the same thing I thought as I listened to this drivel. I've seen it said elsewhere that this was an obvious and for translation - and to that I say, "fair enough"... Doesn't mean I'm not gonna get my money back.
I haven't heard this much word-salad nonsense since the last conservative book I read.
the title of this book seems to suggest it will arm you with various tools to deal with certain types of people in life. aside from an entire first half that delves far too much into technical psychobabble, with only two chapters left, all I've been told so far is a bunch of crap I already knew.
What a waste of time

Might be the worst narration I've EVER heard
Revisado: 08-02-20
considering the importance of the subject matter, the decidedly below-average narration offered is one hell of a head scratcher. in fact, I can confidently say that, at least with regards to the subject matter, this is the absolute worst narration of a book that I've ever heard
While I wholeheartedly recommend this book, whether by eye or ear, I feel I should warn you that should you go to audible route, you are going to be frustrated on more than a few occasions; worse still, there will be times when you will get the distinct impression you are missing a point or have misunderstood the author's intent, solely due to terrible narration and improper annunciation. I don't know who the narrator is, but they seem incredibly bored in spots.
Actually I could go on about how much harm this does to such a technical book, but I'd prefer not to.
TL DR: read this book, or listen to this book; be prepared for shitty narration

As President Trump’s national security advisor, John Bolton spent many of his 453 days in the room where it happened, and the facts speak for themselves. The result is one of the few White House memoirs to date by a top-level official. With almost daily access to the president, John Bolton has produced a precise rendering of his days in and around the Oval Office. What Bolton saw astonished him: a president for whom getting reelected was the only thing that mattered, even if it meant endangering or weakening the nation.

The most self-serving pile of dung yet!
Revisado: 08-01-20
As usual, performance was great - but I have now gone over all of the books from the "leave and leech" crowd - this book is the most disgusting pile of garbage yet.
when you read or listen to other books from other former Administration officials, by and large at some point you will come across some mea culpas, admissions of error, admissions of an improper course taken, Etc. You will find NONE of that here.
So let me save you some grief - leave this book alone. You won't see anything you haven't already gleaned from other, "less" self-serving books from former officials, and the LOADS of self-gratification, irony, and ego will drive you mad.
This book can be summed up thusly:
"Everything would have been perfectly A-OK if only everyone had listened to my mustache. I mean me."
Seriously, it WILL make you nauseous. Couldn't make it past chapter 5, and I'm returning it. I chastise myself GREATLY for having given this worthless waste of skin even a PENNY of my hard-earned money. We need some pest control.

Really starting to drag - narrator is terrible
Revisado: 01-03-20
look, I don't know what the correct pronunciation for Kahlan is per the books, but if the THREE PREVIOUS books have all been narrated to pronounce the a as a long Vowel, kAY-Lihn, then KEEP IT THAT WAY. it took me 15 minutes to figure out who the hell KAH-len was 🙄
each book seems to get a bit more tedious in various areas. one of the Terrible habits this author seems to have, is using the first EIGHT chapters, and the bulk of these, to very clunkily spew out exposition that retreads the previous books' adventures, at the speed of light.
whereas other, I guess better authors will use the first time something is mentioned to provide a small bit of exposition in the event the reader has not read the previous stories, or has forgotten, this guy shovels it to you sentence after sentence after sentence for the entire first chapter. I cannot begin to impress upon you how annoying this is, especially since it's done so poorly and so obviously.
A new character or two is/are introduced, and stuff starts to happen. You get interested. Then you quickly realize that what you Are listening to is nothing more than a weak exposition dump that is barely going to advance the overall story, if at all - but WILL go over, in FRUSTRATING detail, everything you JUST listened to (or read if ur reading), including catch-me-up info you had to suffer through on the 2md and 3rd books too.
(if you read up on that author though it makes things a bit more clear, as this is condescension from a dude who thinks he's smarter than anyone who could be reading)
And as I said, NOT a fan of this narrator, who doesn't care about continuity with audio BOOKS, As long as HE gets things right I suppose.
Not a good experience.

A review from a long time lover and fan
Revisado: 10-04-19
First, let me say that I've read this trilogy all the way through over 20x. about 20 years ago, I Came Upon the paradise War look, and then spent a stupid amount of time and effort to acquire the next two books, which I believe were out of print at that time. no matter how many times I read it, as soon as I start, it becomes impossible to put down until I'm finished.
Stephen lawhead has no equal when it comes to imagery, in my opinion. Game of Thrones has nothing on the song of Albion as far as I'm concerned.
Now with all that in mind, here's my review of this book:
the first two books in this Trilogy were narrated by the same guy, and we're done exceptionally well. the increase in immersion made me extremely happy that I chose to listen to this Trilogy over Audible.
And then I hit the last book. the guy that they got to narrate the final book is absolutely terrible, and I don't throw that lightly. I've listened to many of book that many others have given very low ratings due to the narration, and I never seem to have as much of a problem as other folks.
it is almost so bad that I recommend staying away, but that's robbery if you've already gone through the first two books. So instead, I will just warn you ahead of time that this will not be as engrossing as the first two.
it's obvious the narrator knows nothing of these books. I'll list some examples and then close this review out.
1) narrator made no effort to provide continuity four characters in relation to the first two narrated books. all the characters have different accents now.
2) Lieu (silver hand) now inexplicably has an American accent! hooray! He's also the ONLY character to have an accent like that. keep in mind all characters and settings are based in the UK.
3) Scatha (Pen-ny-cat), the most fearsome warrior in Albion, and the trainer of all Warriors in Albion, now inexplicably sounds like a frail old woman bones could break at any given second.
4) all accents have this weird Indian mish-mash that sound stupid. The Raven flight Warriors are especially victims of this. it's a terrible accent.
5) narrator adds gravitas and weight to certain characters' speech, usually Tegid, when it is not necessary or applicable.
6) Gowen and Tegid both are also given the old person treatment with regards to their voice. keep in mind that in Albion everyone remains young and vital, we assumed the age rage is 28 to 38 or something along those lines. There are no old people in Albion.
7) The author inexplicably adds pauses in between certain two and three syllable words, usually names. Tegid is pronounced with a LARGE pause in between both syllables, and Pen-ny-cat also has pauses between all three syllables.
8) there's more but I'm tired of typing LOL.
All of this completely ruins immersion, and for me actually made it difficult for me to finish the book. Perhaps for those less acquainted with the trilogy this won't be as much of an issue, but even for those people, if they've just listen to the first two books with that particular narrator, they are going to be just as frustrated.
I kid you not when I say that it is so terrible, that I officially offer to re-narrate this book for Amazon completely free of charge, and will do it happily.
