Historia
For over three decades, Angelo Cataldi was the on-air voice of Philadelphia sports fans, leading the charge with unabashed zeal and infectious energy. He was the maestro of the mania, the conductor of the symphony of vitriol that blared through car radios every morning in the most misunderstood yet passionate sports city in America. It made him his share of enemies, but he walked away from the microphone with enough stories for several lifetimes—or one jam-packed, lively memoir.

A Treasure
Revisado: 08-10-24
Angelo Cataldi was the voice of Philadelphia sports media for over 30 years and this behind-the-curtain look at his improbable rise to that position is a must listen. It’s funny, self-deprivating and informative. Loved every second. Those 10 hours flew by!

A brilliant listen! I feel bad for anyone who read this one rather than listen to Will’s insightful narration. Inflection is so critical to any story - that’s why I love Audible. This book is a MasterClass on hospitality and has application far beyond the restaurant industry. It is remarkable in every way.

Historia
In 1966, John Kim Faye was born out of wedlock to a 40-year-old Korean mother and a 62-year-old Irish father. Faye grew up in the state of Delaware, where laws forbidding interracial marriage were still on the books until 1967. As the lead singer and primary songwriter of the Caulfields, Faye was one of the only mixed-race Asian American frontman to sign a major record contract in the alternative rock heyday of the 1990s. In an era that preceded K-Pop—and even the rise of the internet—Faye’s personal journey did not lead to superstardom.

Brilliant Narration, Poignant and Funny as Hell
Revisado: 06-11-23
I have well over 100 books in my Audible Library and this is one of the very best I've come across. So many things about this book are remarkable, but you have to start with John's narration. It reminds me so much of Matthew McConaughey's narration in Green Lights - every single line was treated as performance, not a casual read. John Faye has a different voice for damn near every character that appears in the book, and there is the perfect amount of musical performance sprinkled throughout (both instrumental and John's acappella renderings). This book is seriously funny both in its description of events and also John's perception of the world. John bares his soul in this book and presents himself to the world as a flawed, evolving individual. I give this one my highest recommendation for sure.

Historia
From Andre Agassi, one of the most beloved athletes in history and one of the most gifted men ever to step onto a tennis court, a beautiful, haunting autobiography. Agassi brings a near-photographic memory to every pivotal match and every relationship. Never before has the inner game of tennis and the outer game of fame been so precisely limned. In clear, taut prose, Agassi evokes his loyal brother, his wise coach, his gentle trainer, all the people who help him regain his balance and find love at last with Stefanie Graf.

Eric Davies’ narration is perfection! I’m not even a tennis fan but this was such a great listen. Proof that everyone, no matter how seemingly famous or great, is battling demons and is imperfect.

Historia
You may know him as an NFL All-Pro or as an elite magician who made the finals of America’s Got Talent. But Jon Dorenbos says that what he does is not who he is. Who he is is someone forced, at the most tender of ages, to coach himself into turning tragedy to triumph. One morning in August 1992, when Jon was 12 years old and living a seemingly idyllic childhood in suburban Seattle, he woke up for baseball camp. His dad waved good-bye. Later that day, Jon heard the news: His father had murdered his mother in the family’s three-car garage.

For David Goggins, childhood was a nightmare--poverty, prejudice, and physical abuse colored his days and haunted his nights. But through self-discipline, mental toughness, and hard work, Goggins transformed himself from a depressed, overweight young man with no future into a US Armed Forces icon and one of the world's top endurance athletes. The only man in history to complete elite training as a Navy SEAL, Army Ranger, and Air Force tactical air controller, he went on to set records in numerous endurance events.

Would have loved if David read the whole book himself but it was definitely a great listen. Glad he chimed in after every chapter. I had trouble getting through the first few chapters because his life was so messed up, but it’s worth sticking it out for sure. Stretching is my biggest takeaway. Thanks for that David.

Historia
Bryan Cranston landed his first role at seven, when his father, a struggling actor and director, cast him in a United Way commercial. Soon Bryan was haunting the local movie theater, memorizing and reenacting favorite scenes with his older brother. Acting was clearly the boy's destiny - until one day his father disappeared. Suddenly destiny took a backseat to survival. Seeking something more stable, perhaps subconsciously trying to distance himself from his absent father, Cranston decided on a career in law enforcement.

As a native Philadelphian, I went in wanting to love it. Truthfully, I did. I give Kevin a great deal of credit for being as honest as he was. He's made mistakes and has owned them, and his story of persistence is inspiring. Lastly, of course, there's plenty of laughs.

Historia
Before Liz Lemon, before Weekend Update, before Sarah Palin, Tina Fey was just a young girl with a dream: A recurring stress dream that she was being chased through a local airport by her middle-school gym teacher. She also had a dream that one day she would be a comedian on TV. She has seen both these dreams come true. At last, Tina Fey's story can be told. From her youthful days as a vicious nerd to her tour of duty on Saturday Night Live. Tina Fey reveals all, and proves what we've always suspected: You're no one until someone calls you bossy.

Incredibly Entertaining
Revisado: 05-18-12
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I am a guy (a straight one at that) so for everyone that thinks that this book can only be appreciated by women or gay men (which is what I was told before listening) you are dead wrong. Tina Fey is an incredible talent.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Bossypants?
The insight into the Palin SNL skits.
Which character – as performed by Tina Fey – was your favorite?
Palin of course
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Absolutely. Made traffic a good thing for once.
