Historia
In the long, hot Illinois summer of 1973, insecure, motherless Jamie falls under the dangerous spell of her older, more worldly cousin Fawn, who's come to stay with Jamie and her uncle as penance for committing an "unmentionable act". It is a time of awakenings and corruptions, of tragedy and loss, as Jamie slowly discovers the extent to which Fawn will use anything and anyone to further her own ends - and recognizes, perhaps too late, her own complicity in the disaster that takes shape around them.

Not quite enough closure
Revisado: 01-10-21
The descriptions of life as a teenager in the 1970s are vivid and true to life. One identifies well with the characters and comes to know them over the course of “A Ticket to Ride.” Chloe Cannon does a fantastic job as narrator. It’s disappointing to come to know the characters so well when they’re back in the 1970s, but to have the story told from a later standpoint that feels incomplete. The story might feel more satisfying had it just ended in the 1970s.

Historia
Suspenseful, comic, and profoundly moving, the latest novel in Armistead Maupin's Tales of the City series follows one of literature's most beloved and indelible characters as she embarks on a road trip that will take her deep into her complicated past. Now 92, and committed to the notion of "leaving like a lady", Mrs. Madrigal has seemingly found peace with her "logical family" in San Francisco: her devoted caretaker, Jake Greenleaf; her former tenant Brian Hawkins and his daughter, Shawna; and Michael Tolliver and Mary Ann Singleton, who have known Anna for nearly four decades.

Excellent Interpretation
Revisado: 01-28-19
Mulgrew's style is engaging and heartfelt. Performs characters' voices spot-on. Maupin ties up the loose ends of his previous works with many of the same characters. Offers extra insight into the Tales characters. The Tales characters escapades could end here, but please don't let them!

Here are two sisters: One trades self-respect for a wealthy husband while the other finds in the pages of a book a kindred spirit who changes her life. The janitor at the local school has his faith tested in an encounter with an isolated man he has come to help; a grown daughter longs for mother love even as she comes to accept her mother's happiness in a foreign country; and the adult Lucy Barton (the heroine of My Name Is Lucy Barton, the author's celebrated New York Times best seller) returns to visit her siblings after 17 years of absence.

Ties in well with Strout's other works
Revisado: 05-23-18
Explores themes of class in a very insightful, provocative manner. Well-read by Kimberly Farr. Strout obviously loves her characters.

Wonderful talent for voices!
Revisado: 06-24-16
Massey's reading offers an incredible skill of introducing all her characters and their foibles in this work, where we feel a part of Manderley.

Historia
An historic literary event: the publication of a newly discovered novel, the earliest known work from Harper Lee, the beloved, best-selling author of the Pulitzer Prize-winning classic To Kill a Mockingbird. Originally written in the mid-1950s, Go Set a Watchman was the novel Harper Lee first submitted to her publishers before To Kill a Mockingbird. Assumed to have been lost, the manuscript was discovered in late 2014.

Reese makes a great Scout!
Revisado: 09-17-15
Reese Witherspoon does a great interpretation of Scout and of Scout's peers who have become Southern housewives. This makes a great sequel to "To Kill a Mockingbird." I wish there were more in the series!
