Boring and unbelievable drivel
Revisado: 02-22-23
Poor quality writing. Like listening to an interminable monologue by a middle aged soccer mom from NJ who is so needy and unfulfilled.

OK - nothing special
Revisado: 02-04-23
Very irritating narrator - whiny tone for the main character - Erica Foster. And completely preposterous final scene where she goes alone to meet with the suspected serial killer at 8 PM. Do the police in south London never do things in pairs? I’d be surprised if that was a permitted practice.

Not bad for a first book
Revisado: 09-23-22
Audio was super weird with cheap sound props periodically slicing through the background - a rain forest track when they were standing outside the cabin, an echo when they were standing in an underpass, etc. Some of the banging doors were jarring and shocked me as I was driving. Very unsettling and made it hard to hear the dialogue at times. Plot was interesting - a kidnap to keep someone out of town until their window to oppose the sale of a business expires - but it seemed unrealistic to the point of ridiculousness that a child would be kidnapped and that the private investigating firm would agree not to contact the police, even though they had no experience of dealing with such matters. Still, I let that slide and gave the book a chance. Overall, it was not a bad first attempt. I will definitely read the second book in the series.

Historia
Set in the 1970s in a run-down, rainy, industrial town, Jo Nesbo's Macbeth centers around a police force struggling to shed an incessant drug problem. Duncan, chief of police, is idealistic and visionary, a dream to the townspeople but a nightmare for criminals. The drug trade is ruled by two drug lords, one of whom - a master of manipulation named Hecate - has connections with the highest in power and plans to use them to get his way.

Long but brilliant
Revisado: 03-10-20
Terrific take in Shakespeare’s Macbeth - set in the 1970s Scotland - perhaps Glasgow? The reader was outstanding and really captured the mood, and I thought it was Jo Nesbø’s best writing. Really excellent book. Would highly recommend.

Historia
On a late summer evening, the train from Malmö to Ystad is involved in a crash. The deaths at the scene seem straightforward, until one of the bodies is identified as a well-known conman. It's someone who had crossed swords with Chief Inspector Moberg in the past, and he is keen to find out what the dead man was up to. Before long, it develops into a far more sinister investigation for Inspector Anita Sundström and the team at Skåne County Police.

Story just finished before all the loose ends were tied up. Very disappointing.

Historia
Lucy Barton is recovering slowly from what should have been a simple operation. Her mother, to whom she hasn’t spoken for many years, comes to see her. Gentle gossip about people from Lucy’s childhood in Amgash, Illinois, seems to reconnect them, but just below the surface lie the tension and longing that have informed every aspect of Lucy’s life: her escape from her troubled family, her desire to become a writer, her marriage, her love for her two daughters. Knitting this powerful narrative together is the brilliant storytelling voice of Lucy herself.

Pretentious self entitled drivel
Revisado: 03-10-19
One of the most self indulgent and pretentious books I’ve read in a long time. The writing style is so precious - and the story line is boring - no insights or original thoughts and observations about this woman’s life. Haven’t read as weak a book in a long time.

Mediocre writing - unbelievable plot
Revisado: 08-13-17
The writing was forced - it felt like you were reading an SAT passage where the writer had to use a bunch of set vocabulary - and the basic premise - a guy who goes to jail for a murder he didn't commit and who later in life meets a student who decides to crack the case and exonerate him - seemed unoriginal and totally unbelievable to me. Like Scooby Doo, only a less charming version. So I would not recommend this audio book.
