The issue isn’t with the story

I’m sure the story is decent and I’ll continue to read on kindle as time allows. I just couldn’t get pass hearing the movement of saliva in the male narrators mouth when he spoke. Also the female narrator had a similar issue but not as noticeable. However, every inhalation and swallow. Just couldn’t do it. Both had great voices though, would love to listen to them with better noise cancellation to get rid of those issues.

FMC narration needs redone

I normally can tune out annoyances with narration as the story goes on. The issue I had with her is that she had this constant feigned shock reaction to evvvvverything. She constantly sounded like she was hiding under her blankets and whispering this book at us as if someone might hear her. When she would pause between sentences you could hear her throat and stomach gurgling. This became even more prevalent around chapter 10-14. I finally gave up at chapter 14 and returned the book. I’m going to go finish this on KU. The story has promise and I wish I could have still enjoyed the male narrator but she really ruined this.

Listen. I get it. Beaver was a cute inside joke. But you madam author took it waaaaaay too far. I love your writing, I would have loved this story. But the random awful puck puns and the absolutely abhorrent overuse of the beaver thing - I simply couldn’t deal with it by chapter 12 any longer.

The narrators were great and I enjoyed the way they delivered the story.

I love the story the author was building and maybe I’ll check out some of her more recent work to see if I like those better as I do believe she is a very skilled writer. But this is a dnf for me.

Captivating suspense romance

Heed the trigger warnings. There are detailed flashbacks and current assaults that happen in the book.

Overall I loved the book. I did. feel that the plot got lost in the sauce mid way through as they focused on their relationship issues. But it came back together at the end.

The voice actors were great! Joe performs well in the spicy scenes but tends to sound like a male version of Siri when reading all the other scenes. He seems to race through a bit robotically. But I still enjoyed both voice actors very much.

Glad to add this one to my collection and go back to listen again one day.

What can I say - it’s a book

I love that this book is in the plus catalogue on audible so I can listen to the series. Not my favorite, not the worst. The voice actors are ok. The female lead makes the dude sound like he’s always trying to be sexy. It’s annoying but you get used to it. I did. like the twist at the end. It’s not very often I don’t see it coming.

Voice actors are perfect

The easiest way to sum up this book: if under the mountain (ACOTAR) and Aelins capture and torture (TOG) were made into a whole book.

There was some growth, some discoveries, it’s important to read so you understand where things are headed for the fourth book. But I don’t think this needed to be a whole book. Felt pretty slow and repetitive. That being said - I am very excited for the next book. I feel like this lull is pretty normal for longer series as you get ramped up for the great revolution. But the voice actors are really on point! Excellent performance by both.

A perfect second installment

So far I’m really loving this story. The issue I take is that a lot of the material seems recycled. I can link so many things to other series that have practically the same exact scenes. I’d liken this series to scrapple. All these scenes from other popular books put into a storyline. But I still find that I really love it. The male voice actor was fine - until he had to read the female part. I audibly cringed - it was that bad. Female voice actor was still on par and I loved the Inflection she provides depending on the scene.

Overall I’m very happy this was free and I can’t wait to read the third book while we await the fourth!

Holy Sh**

I never saw that twist coming. Normally I’m spot on and I was… until I wasn’t lol. Very well written, perfect voice which changes perfectly for the various characters. Estrella got on my nerves a bit here and there - but now - yea he deserved her defiance for a every single bit. Can’t wait to slide on over to the next book!

Solid voice casting and story

Without spoiling it - I’ll say that this gave exact Netflix Sabrina vibes. To the T. Honestly - imma just say it - feels like the author watched the Netflix series and really wanted there to be a season 4. so she’s written this book to lead into it. I loved Sabrina myself and really wanted that fourth season. I am all too happy this series exists. I would love for it to be more than two books though. There are lots of varied bloodlines and I would like to see it evolved through a series of similarly sized books.

Read it and tell me I’m wrong.
