I was given a copy of this audiobook in exchanged for an honest review. I got the kindle version nearly 4 years ago, after having met the author at a signing. My schedule wasn't working for ebook reading, but I promised the author I'd write her an audio review if she provided me with a credit to get the book.

The thing is... I read it earlier this year and I've been waiting months to post this review. There's not a single other review on the audible page, and that just makes me feel awkward. But it's been almost a year since I was given the audiobook, so I couldn't really wait any longer.

If you are interested in this story I highly recommend you read the book. I kept up with my ebook version and read along as I was listening to the audio. Although I have my issues with the written version of this story, it's much easier to deal with than Sallie Downing's narration. She has very little emotion or expression and made the most dramatic parts of the story underwhelming. It was incredibly disappointing. Had I not already promised I'd review the audio, I'd have just stopped it and gone straight to the ebook.

I will say this about Blood Purple, it's got an interesting concept. I liked the beginning, it had a strong opening. It kept me wanting to continue the story, even during the many parts of incoherence and repetition. And I found the ending to just be downright awkward. I am debating finishing the series, but via ebook form. I will be avoiding any other audiobooks narrated by Sallie Downing.

Okay, so I was going through goodreads to find books that fit with this month's Diversity Challenge, physical disability, and this one popped out on a couple lists. After checking it out I realized I already owned the ebook, and the audio version was only a couple dollars more... so I got that as well. This is who I am as a person. Oh, and Lenore from Celebrity Readers also recommended it to me to read this month, so that sealed my choice.

Both main characters are hockey players that are unable to play due to physical disabilities. Adam Hartley broke his leg, so he's temporarily unable to play for his team. Corey Callahan, on the other hand, is in a wheelchair from an accident during her senior year of high school and she is no longer able to play. But they both meet during her first year of college because they're both assigned to accessible rooms.

It's been a while since I've read a new adult romance. I don't know why I keep forgetting how much I love these things. The drama is so high, which is great! I needed that more than I realized.

Hartley is a butt. But he's also awesome. It's complicated and I can't go into too many details. He needed so many smacks upside his head for his insolence. Also, I really liked his story. Especially his mom. She's fabulous.

I really liked how Corey was portrayed as a strong character, especially with her disability. And how she wasn't trying to stand out or be held back. She just wanted to live her life and do what she wanted to do. And so I think the way the disability was portrayed in this story was pretty good.

There were many times while I was reading/listening (depending on the time of day) in which I had to yell at the book because Hartley was being a punk. Or Corey's parents were being dumb. And I loved feeling all the feels as I read the book.

Anyway, I recommend you lot check this one out. And I'm going to need to read the rest of the books in this series.

This was September's Boho book club read. It was also recommended to me by Lenore from Celebrity Readers, so it was already in my radar. And the author also gifted it to me (and everyone else in the book club) in exchange for an honest review. Oh, and I also bought the audio version after being gifted the ebook because of the discount. So I was totally ready to get into this book.

As someone who has been the victim of sexual abuse, I was both intrigued and worried about what I should expect in this book. I am pleased to report that I found the way it was handled in a way in which I could relate. All too often I read books with raped used as a device to weaken the female lead and turn it into some ridiculous bull shit. That's not what I found in this, and I was relieved. Survivors get enough crap and we need strong stories.

Another super mega very important epic thing to mention... this is absolutely a nerdy romance. I love those so many! And the amount of references was glorious. Although it is important to note that the romance in here is very unconventional. I don't agree with the way everything happened, but I think I'm okay with it.

I have fallen so hard for Anne Eliot's writing, and I plan on reading more of her stuff - and soon. Also I recommend you all do the same. Even if Lenore recommended her stuff and she quite obviously enjoys my suffering from all the feels involved in such things.

I was given a copy of this book from the Audiobook Boom in exchange for an honest review.

When I first started it I was a bit thrown off by the narrator. She just seemed a little weird to me. And if you know me, you know I listen to a few audiobooks a week. I'm an addict. But something just didn't click for me at first. After finishing the book I realized the narrator was the author, which isn't a bad thing. But it wasn't until the story picked up for me that I was able to get more into the narration. Had I not specifically signed up to review the audiobook I'd have just switched over to the ebook edition.

I think it was about 30% in when I started feeling more comfortable with Rue as a narrator. By that point I was pretty much sucked into the story and I did not sleep that night because I had to finish this book. Although I do have to admit I was disappointed because I expected this to be more a lesbian romance. Although there is some of that in here, it's a background story and this is mostly the story of her sister.

There is some crazy as hell stuff going on in this book. Ridiculous, but in a way that I absolutely enjoyed and I'm not even ashamed. It's because of that reason that I just couldn't put it down. I needed to know what the hell was going to happen, because it was so different than anything I expected it to be.

This was another Harper Miller recommendation. She's quite good at those, btw. I highly suggest you stalk her Facebook page for the books she mentions. I was disappointed to find out that none of my libraries had this one, so I ended up getting it on audible.

I've been iffy on historical fiction as of late. It just seemed too many of them I was seeing were really more... fantasied versions of the reality. And that frustrated me more than anything. When I read historical I like accuracy. This includes the negatives that come with that time period.

Unlike my usual reads, which I really enjoy something I devour it quickly, I took this one slowly. And I loved it. There's a whole lot of stuff going on in here, and I wanted to make sure I was able to comprehend and acknowledge it all so I'd get the whole picture of everything going on.

I hadn't read Alyssa Cole before this, so I wasn't aware of how much sexy times she writes. It'd been a while since I'd read a book with sex in it to be honest, so I was absolutely thrown off at first. In my head I'm all, "Wait a moment, what's going on ... oh! Yes. This. I know what this is." Because I am 100% this ridiculous.

I'd have to say that I was quite impressed with this book. I will be reading more from this author and I cannot wait for the next book in the series.

I don't do this very often anymore, but I was given this audiobook in exhange for an honest review. I am a fan of the author, Joe DeRouen, so I already anticipated that I'd enjoy it. Either that, or I'd be incredibly disappointed and it would require me to unlike his fanpage and pretend he never existed in the first place.

I really like how this author does paranormal. It's probably why I enjoy his books as much as I do. It's less vampires and whatnot and more actual demons that are going to cause some crazy damage if they're not stopped. Think an episode of Supernatural, except with a completely different set of characters - and before it became crazy ridiculous. Aka, good times.

I was a bit confused a few times between the switches of characters. There is a lot going on, and a whole lot of people to keep up with. It really wasn't until a few chapters in that I started having an idea of what was going on in the book.

Despite that issue, I felt the story had so much awesomeness that such insolence can be mostly overlooked. Like I mentioned, a bunch of stuff is happening. But it's all brought together in a way that I was both not expecting and pleased me greatly. And isn't that what matters in life?

I was given a copy of the audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

I don't know if it's because I already knew most of the characters, but I found myself more drawn into this book than the last one. There are so many questions answered from the first book, which I appreciated. But there's also more brought up that I assume will be addressed in the next book.

The was a part where I was listening while in bed, with my cats and dog. A thing happens. This particular thing involves an incredible amount of feels. So I'm laying down, trying to hold it together. ...I don't need my animals judging me. Anyway, I failed. I'm laying there, trying to explain to them why it's okay that I'm sad, and then I start crying. And I'm just holding my cat, Joker, tightly and begging him to fix it.

The worst part about this book is when I finished it and then realized there isn't a third one out yet. And I've been refreshing amazon multiple times hoping to summon it.

I grabbed this book and the audio version from Amazon when it was on sale last month, getting both of them for less than $5. Plus, it came highly recommended from an author I follow, Harper Miller.

Because I am who I am as a person, I absolutely grabbed this book without even reading the synopsis. I knew it had to do with the 1800s, based on the cover photo, and I did catch a glimpse of the words “science fiction”… but I really didn’t give it much thought.

When I started it I was surprised to find the main character was in the 70s… and then out of no where – BAM – time travel to the 1800s. I’m going to have to say that going into this book almost entirely blind made it that much more interesting to me.

I really enjoyed how the author used time travel as a way to show slavery more openly. Many people can think back and say, “If I was a slave I’d have done [insert random things]”. But she was there. She knew how it worked. And yet she couldn’t do much to change things. I think that helped make this story feel so much more realistic.

There’s a lot of questions I had after finishing the book, and I was a bit frustrated when it ended. Although I do have to say that I was quite intrigued by it and I am interested in reading more books by this author.

I've had the ebook for a while. CTP generally makes the first book in their series free. When I found out the audio version had been released though, I checked it out and saw it was on sale because I had the ebook. Glorious! I bought it immediately.

I have known about this series for a few years now, back when this book was a bunch of shorter books. And it looked really good, but I just kept putting it off. I was more worried I was expecting too much from it and didn't want to be disappointed. I know, that sounds incredibly dumb of me. But I'm known to do stuff like that from time to time.

Anyway, I finally decided it was time to read it.

Although I liked the narrator, there was one thing that bothered me. It is split POV between 3 people, two of which are male. It just was weird that a dominantly male storyteller was read by a female. She wasn't bad or anything, just not what I'd have preferred.

This story is pretty fast pace, with the government trying to capture and basically dismantle all the people who need their upgrades to survive. I like how each of the three main characters contribute to the story in their unique ways. I usually have a difficult time differing between POVs of the same gender while listening to an audiobook, but both Dax and Gage are so vastly different. I really appreciated that.

Most important of all, Blythe is a super fraking awesome heroine.

The ending though. Holy gawd blasted monkey balls! I really did not see that coming. I'm glad the audiobook for the 2nd book released last month, because I'm going to need to read that ASAP.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Absolutely I would recommend it. I would love for them to suffer as I did. Mwahaha

What did you like best about this story?

Oh man, I don't even know where to start. I guess how gripping it was. It grabbed me by my heart and just didn't let go.

What does Tavia Gilbert and J. D. Jackson bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

They were both amazing. This was one of the best narrations I've heard in a while. The story itself was fantastic, but they brought it to a whole other level.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

There were many times where I would giggle because of adorableness. There were times where my heart would beat so quickly because of certain dramatic bits. But there was one specific moment where I couldn't move because I was sobbing.

So, yes. This book is very moving.

Any additional comments?

This book is paranormal. Moses communicates with ghosts. That should be noted in the description, but it isn't.
