A real supreme court justice explaining how he does his job that reads like a New Yorker article written for future judges (or amateur lawyers like us.) Exactly what i wanted, "how to make sense out Supreme Court decisions?" Retired Justice Breyer reads his own book like a kindly college professor who genuinely wants every student to gain full comprehension. The examples are real, understandable and well-chosen. It's a method of rational dissection we wish legal experts would explain about important Supreme Court decisions that upset and confound us. If you are committed to understanding American politics this book is a must read and very readable.

you might think that the life of a genius is easy but it’s not, it’s just as complicated and frustrating as everyone else’s. i’m glad Kara Swisher reads her own book, no one can tell her story as well as she can. i can hear the attitude in her voice is real, i’ve seen her on television, and if i were a woman i’d run to her for advice as i’m sure many have. mass communication is wondrous when you can trust the person speaking was in the room when leading people revealed their true selves with all their prejudice and flaws. i worked for enormous corporate bureaucracies for many years and never met anyone like Kara Swisher. oh that i had. if you are compelled to comprehend the life altering power of computer science this is your guide to understanding the effect it is having on our combined sanity. if Kara Swisher were at the helm we’d have a different reality from the toxic sludge now masquerading as fact.

The title makes sense when we realize that our primary relationship is with ourselves. Fix that relationship and you’ll respond better in your outer relationships. Chapter 3 is the best explanation of polyvagal theory i have found. The author has written a great companion book to Pete Walker’s childhood trauma self-therapy. These two authors will open your eyes to the source of your involuntary emotional reactions that may be preventing emotional calmness and ruining your interpersonal relationships. i slowed the narrative speed to 75% and i’ll listen to chapter 3 again so i recognize mental states when i have them and see them. This is a very understandable useful book for sufferers of childhood trauma seeking self-healing. This book and Pete Walker can map your journey.

this book is a precise synopsis of a great thinker who got the USA through the worst period of its history correcting a glaring self-contradiction of our national creed - slavery. only a man as capable as Lincoln could have used the simple methods available at that time to solve this monstrous problem. a well organized explanation of what Lincoln did and how he got in this position for beginner historians like me. great book for curious Americans

i focus on the health of my body a lot. i love this book because i cook a lot in my home kitchen starting with raw ingredients. i may be healthier than everyone i know who is around my age (70.) now i know why that may be true - it’s my daily walking and the food i eat. modern convenience food is having an ill effect on our population and this book explains how we got this way. the author takes you on a journey of discovery that makes me skeptical of modern convenience food and makes me want to be a more knowledgeable cook in my home kitchen. homemade gluten-free buckwheat bread with 5 ingredients is my next project. the best healthcare is self-care

the book i’ve been looking for

this is the book i’ve been looking for my entire adult life. it’s not just an advice book, it’s a self-help book for self-aware people. it contains an explanation that enhances self-awareness and is actionable. if all psychotherapy is ultimately self-therapy this is the textbook. the jargon is simplified and understandable. if there was a Nobel Prize for psychotherapy this is the theory that should win. i set my reading speed to .9 to follow along carefully listening for my symptoms and habits. no amount of talk therapy can do what this book does because no one can see you as clearly as you can see yourself (and all your hidden secrets.) i see other people in my life in the book too which makes it easier to cope with their strange difficult personalities so i can like them despite the way they interact with people. the ultimate mental state is self-acceptance through understanding with a commitment to feel better about people with emotional flaws including ourselves. as a philosophy this is universally true and is built into our minds and our environment. this book enhances our ability to fix what we can repair and understand everything we are forced to endure. take your time, be prepared to face your dark self, and look back on your journey through life as a long learning experience that is unavoidable. namaste as you search for lasting peace

this book could only have been written by someone who knows what she’s talking about. it includes evolutionary neurobiology concepts. Doctor Feldman Barrett is my newest favorite neurobiologist. she debunks and clarifies some misleading scientific junk. definitely a 5-star lecture in my opinion

Revisado: 06-18-23

i have this condition so i sought out this book but i need a better book. There’s too much repetition of “ventral vagal” without fully explaining what it feels like and how to get there. some people call this syndrome “disregulation” and that’s what it feels like. It feels like my emotions have been hijacked by negative thoughts about negative outcomes. i want to take back mental control but i can’t. my metabolism races out of control and i can’t stop it. this book is full of platitudes not useful advice to shut this off. i’m disappointed that an expert hasn’t figured out the necessary self-therapy to cope with this condition. lots of words here but not much real advice. i’m disappointed. this book falls very short of my needs for actionable advice. Note: Nicole Lapera’s book “How to be the love you seek” explains polyvagal theory very clearly in chapter 3 that takes about an hour of careful listening so you can skip this wordy book.
