Wonderful adult MM fairy tale
Revisado: 09-22-21
Never judge a book by its cover, isn't that the saying? I did though, I totally judged this book by its cover because it has to be one of my ten top favorite covers of all time. Having pre-judged, I'm going to let you know that the book did not disappoint. Once again, this is an audiobook that I'm listening to after having read the book. I'm really digging this way of being able to compare my initial take on a story and then seeing the difference it makes by listening to someone else tell it. There really is a difference too! Sometimes it's subtle and other times it's like... whoa... is this the same story? For me, I think this book fell into the middle of that spectrum.
Super engaging from the start, it had my attention from the initial scene that has MC Graham in a dire situation, fighting to escape with his life. It just got better from there. Once Rory, (the Autumn Prince) enters the picture things got really interesting. I loved both MCs. They were uniquely different, and in uniquely different places in life; yet had similar backgrounds. They worked perfectly together.
With wonderful world building, adventures, a grand quest, lots of drama and intrigue. Grey and Rory have more than just evil to overcome. The characters were surprisingly deep and I truly felt all the emotions and hard won acceptance and love while the romance was helped along with a meddlesome unicorn.
I loved this adult fairy tale as an e-book and as an audio.
Brennan Rossi, is a new to me narrator. I enjoyed his version of this story. He emotes well and was interesting to listen to.

Historia
Thomas Walsh knows the number-one rule in the film industry: Don't get involved with the talent. But resisting the urge to take the big screen to the bedroom can be hell when the lead actor on the set looks good enough to eat...one slow lick at a time. Peter Erickson's latest role as a gay man hits a little too close to home. He's still in the closet and secretly grieving the death of his lover. Then an enchanting production assistant catches his eye, and he's surprised by the instant attraction that stirs more than his wounded soul.

A super sweet romance
Revisado: 08-07-21
I’m always surprised by the different take I get when I listen to a book compared to when I read it. I’m going to start with the narration, Michael Dean is a fantastic choice for this book. He has great voices and emotes brilliantly. I truly felt the emotions of the characters as he spoke.
My thoughts when I read the book was “How sweet” and I got that from listening too, but I also felt a bit more of the anxiety of what it must be like for Thomas and Peter as closeted men. Coming out didn’t turn out to be a choice for them, however I was so impressed that they owned up to the fact that yes, they were indeed gay (even if it started out not being 100% completely honest). That they were in their particular industry was helpful I think in embracing who they are.
Thomas… man, he really has some stuff that he’s holding DEEP inside. He’s so sweet and hard working, ambitious and loyal but, yeah, his stuff definitely affects how he goes about his relationships. And by that I mean ALL of his relationships. The way he is with his mother, father and sister absolutely breaks my heart. I think that Peter went a long way in helping him start to heal.
Peter, he’s also got some heartbreaking stuff that drives him. Actors must be some of the hardest working people there are. To be successful in the craft they have to be so dedicated and Peter really is. He’s made it to the top and is working with the A-listers. When he’s blind-sided by a change in the script, he does what any actor of his caliber would do… he says bring it! It was nice to see him get to play the role even while I think it challenged him to be in a more freeing, true to life(ish) role. And there are some freeing *snickers* and challenging parts to be played for sure!
I really enjoyed watching them go from convenient but on the DL to friends to fake boyfriends to finding a once in a life time love that made me so happy for their HEA. Plus, I once again have the insane desire for orange and licorice ice cream.

My favorite by this author and narrator to date
Revisado: 08-07-21
Once again I'm listening to the audiobook after I've read the e-book. I have to say that I'm having a great time noticing how different the two versions are from each other.
One of my favorite things about listening to both versions is that I catch little things that I missed the first time around.
I love that Gabbi's guys have made it into 2 Deerbourne Inn books. What a great addition to the series.
I remember thinking when I read the e-book that it was one of the best books I'd read this year and now it's one of the best audiobooks I've listened to as well. It's definitely my fave Gabbi Grey book to date!
The characters are more complex than they appear at first glance as is the story. It's a very well written story that's put together beautifully.
Xander and Jared are both a little needy and lonely and a tiny bit angsty. Of course they have some big things to work through and grow as individuals and as a couple as the relationship blossoms. I sometimes wondered how they would overcome things to reach their HEA, I sometimes thought that they were silly to impose some of those obstacles on themselves, I sometimes cried because the things they were feeling were so real and raw. I had moments where I was frightened for their future together and moments when I cheered on and celebrated them. I can assure you that they earn their HEA.
Lastly, I love that Callum and Elijah made an appearance in this book. I adore the both of them!
Michael Ferraiuolo's narration was spot on for this book. He really does a great job bringing these characters to life.

One of the best fake engagement stories ever!
Revisado: 11-15-20
I don’t have the opportunity to listen to many audiobooks but I’m so glad I was able to listen to this one.
Fake engagements are one of my favorite tropes and I thoroughly enjoyed this audiobook. The story was so engaging, right from the start and I easily connected with the characters. This is the third book in the series. It was the first that I read, and I didn’t feel like I was floundering at all with not reading the other ones first (although I’m going to immediately rectify that and catch up with the first and second books).
My heart went out to Avery. I’m a sucker for a broken character and Avery is so beautifully written. He’s a character that I think many of us can identify with in our own way, hiding the true parts of himself in order to make other people more comfortable. He’s been groomed for a life in politics and follows his father’s lead even when it isn’t his heart’s desire... until he once again crosses paths with Rory and has to confront the past they shared in secret.
Rory is one of those guys that you just want to know and be friends with because you know they won’t let you down. I was rooting for these two from the start. And let me tell you, I wasn’t sure how they were ever going to get their HEA.
DJ Jamison did a fantastic job of keeping up the suspense. I’ve only read one other book by this author but I’m a solid fan now and it won’t be my last. Their writing style is effortless to read and perfectly descriptive. I felt like a part of the story instead of someone looking at it from the outside.
I want to take a minute to mention Wyatt Baker, who is a new to me narrator. I think he might be one of the best narrators I’ve ever listened to. He did a brilliant job with these characters and I can't wait to listen to him again.

An emotional, beautiful story
Revisado: 08-07-18
I don't often read books that have religious overtones. It makes me furious enough seeing how people twist things to suit them in the name of religion in real life and that carries over for me into reading. It may be a good thing because if written well (and this story is VERY well written), I can really feel a lot of emotion. This audiobook brought out just about every emotion I have. I felt angry that some parents don't know the meaning of unconditional love, I felt grateful that the characters were able to find that unconditional love in others to replace what their parents couldn't give, I felt the rush of new love, strong, but just beginning and I felt a huge sense of family.
Ted, an artist from a fanatically religious family was so sweet. Even having to face so many things growing up alone for the most part, he was still just a very endearing character. I appreciated that for all it made him introverted, it also made him determined and even though it did cloud his thinking, it didn't overshadow it enough to stop him from trying to be the best him he could be and it didn't stop him from grabbing his slice of happy when it was in front of him. One of the things that I liked most about this character was that he could have been angst ridden, making poor decisions based on fear and feeling inadequate. But he was very adult and thought things through for the most part before acting out. I was glad that he took a chance on Anderson. The relationship between the two of them becomes intimate rather quickly but again it is written so well and flows with the story so seamlessly that it just works. And boy do they ever work well together! I sometimes skip over sex scenes and there are many reasons that I do, but these two together were perfection and just the right amount of sexy to make me wonder if the temperature in the room had gone up.
Anderson is the person that started off the story and I loved him from the very first moment. I love everything about him. He is a thoughtful, loving, smart and fun character. That he too is willing to take a shot at the big L when things in his past haven't been perfect in a completely different way than Ted made me very happy. That this character was able to navigate this budding romance into a relationship in an adult manner was like the cherry on top of the sundae for me.
The secondary characters were amazing I loved some of them instantly I disliked some of them instantly and I even changed my mind about how I felt about one or two of them. They MADE this story what it is, in my opinion. Oh, that religion thing? It was an important part of the story but done in a very nice way and it really hits home that heaven can strike at any time. I enjoyed this story immensely.
The narration was simply amazing! I love Vance Bastian's voice, the way he emotes, the different characters, it was all perfection. Some narrators take their time and put their all into the stories they narrate and Vance is one of those narrators. I appreciate it when they really get into the characters, it makes the stories that much better for me.
