This was a very respectful account of being behind the scenes in the White House from FDR to Nixon.

Good story with excellent readers
Revisado: 03-27-24
I started reading the print book, but as I got into the book the author abandoned punctuation. I found this very annoying, but I was hooked by the story. It was a good use of one of my Audible credits. The readers are excellent.
Things are not as they first appear, and the story unfolds with the revealing of many secrets until a climactic ending brings the various characters together.

Historia
Once in a generation, a historian will redefine his field, producing a book that demands to be read or heard - a product of electrifying scholarship conveyed with commanding skill. Diarmaid MacCulloch's Christianity is such a book. Breathtaking in ambition, it ranges back to the origins of the Hebrew Bible and covers the world, following the three main strands of the Christian faith.

Revisado: 06-01-21
The author presents thousands of years of Christian history in the world with understanding and without obvious bias. If any particular aspect was missed, I can’t think of what it could be! This is my new favorite text on the history of Christianity, and I will certainly return to it for reference.

Story is good, but narrator is not
Revisado: 04-25-20
This novel deals with themes of Christian forgiveness. It would make a good Tyler Perry movie. The narrator has a very choppy style that detracts from the story.

Worth a second start
Revisado: 04-27-19
I got about 1/5 of the way through this book and realized that I was not really following the story well. I went on YouTube and watched some interviews and speeches the author gave (the speech at the Carter Center was especially helpful). Once I realized that Teresita, the main character, was a real person and was part of the family lore of the author, the book made sense. I started listening back at the beginning with new understanding and appreciation. The book appears to be in the genre of magic realism, but many of the supernatural parts are considered truthful.
I often don’t like an author’s narration, but this one is just right.
