Historia
Early morning, August 1975: a camp counselor discovers an empty bunk. Its occupant, Barbara Van Laar, has gone missing. Barbara isn’t just any thirteen-year-old: she’s the daughter of the family that owns the summer camp and employs most of the region’s residents. And this isn’t the first time a Van Laar child has disappeared. Barbara’s older brother similarly vanished fourteen years ago, never to be found.

2 hours in i gave up.
Revisado: 10-18-24
I really dislike a book that constantly jumps around in time. Shifting back and forth in the months of 1972 and then a trip back to 1950 to listen to a never ending stuffy telling of New England blue bloods that reminded me of a BBC 19th century drama. At this point I couldn’t take anymore. If I had a physical book, I would have pitched it in the trash can so I wouldn’t even have to see it to remind me of the horrible experience.

Historia
1992. All across the United States respectable, upstanding citizens are showing up dead. These deaths could be accidents, and they don’t appear to be connected—until a fatal fall from a high-floor window attracts some unexpected attention. That attention comes from the secretary of defense. All of a sudden he wants an interagency task force to investigate. And he wants Jack Reacher as the army’s representative. If Reacher gets a result, great. If not, he’s a convenient fall guy.

Good read
Revisado: 03-01-24
Was at times confusing, shifted from one group of characters to another with no division or indication. Also frustrating that authors needed to make characters gullible to make the story work.

Story was just kind of disappointing after having seen the movie. I don’t think that has ever happened for me before…

Andrew Crain has it all: a brilliant scientist and astute businessman, his groundbreaking work with lithium has made him one of the world’s richest men. He is universally adored and admired; that is, until Crain’s beautiful wife, Laura, comes to Spenser hoping that he can find out what skeletons lurk in her husband’s closet. Though Crain is a generous philanthropist and loving family man, she is concerned—he has recently become secretive, bordering on paranoid, and prone to violent outbursts.

Kind of boring for a Spencer novel.
Revisado: 12-05-23
Falls short of what I have come to expect from a Spencer novel. There is just kind of flat. No action and little comic banter.

Perhaps I am spoiled by Joe Montoya, but this reader was just bad. Accents are definitely not his thing. His Spanish accent closer to a Count Dracula.

Historia
His good friend Mark Twain dubbed him "St. Andrew." British Prime Minister William Gladstone called him an "example" for the wealthy. Such terms seldom apply to multimillionaires. But Andrew Carnegie was no run-of-the-mill steel magnate. At age 13 and full of dreams, he sailed from his native Dunfermline, Scotland, to America. Here, in one volume, are two impressive works by Andrew Carnegie himself: his autobiography and The Gospel of Wealth, a groundbreaking manifesto on the duty of the wealthy to give back to society all of their fortunes.

It was alright.
Revisado: 06-16-23
The reader has a “blue blood” way of speaking, I found this to be distracting in addition to a slow reading. I found listening at 1.25 speed corrected both issues very well.

Less then I expected.
Revisado: 12-13-22
Compared to other Ann Charles books this one was uneventful at best. Very little got started and nothing got resolved. I someone asked me what happened in this book I think I could explain it in one or two minutes. Lots of romance, very, very little mystery.

Revisado: 12-11-20
Jake the main character is selfish, self centered, and thick headed. Books with “good guy” characters that go through the story proverbially barely able to out run the lame monster, is so aggravating it is distracting from the story.

Not a Book!!
Revisado: 07-15-18
If you think you would enjoy listening to a TV show that you have never watched before you might think this is ok. This is literally only the audio of a TV show, complete with noises of people doing things and many other things that go unexplained. I listened to maybe 20 minutes and decided listening to this "book" was a waste of my time. Shame on the people who are selling this as an audio book...
