Gideon Crew - brilliant scientist, master thief, intrepid adventurer - is shocked when his former employer, Eli Glinn, vanishes without a trace, and Glinn's high-tech lab Effective Engineering Solutions shuts down seemingly overnight. Fresh off a diagnosis that gives him only months to live, Crew is contacted by one of his former coworkers at EES, Manuel Garza, who has a bead on one final treasure hinted at in EES's final case, the long-awaited translation of a centuries-old stone tablet of a previously undiscovered civilization: The Phaistos Disc.

Very slow
Revisado: 01-23-24
There were a number a interesting elements in the story. The tribe and the tomb. Although fictitious, it was historic-ish fiction and creative. But throughout the endless and sooooo predictable adventures from the theft of the USB to the cliche ordeals in the desert, many times I found myself on the verge of giving up. And after three Gideon Claw story, I just can’t warm up to him. He is no Pendergast…

A classic thriller from #1 New York Times bestselling author Michael Crichton, Sphere is a bravura demonstration of what he does better than anyone: riveting storytelling that combines frighteningly plausible, cutting-edge science and technology with pulse-pounding action and serious chills.

Boring.
Revisado: 12-28-23
It was my first Chriton and I was very disappointed. Had to force myself to keep listening, but the last conversation in the decompressing chamber got me. I had to stop. I found the story boring and the plot dragging and repetitive. I ended up not caring if they all lived or died.

Great Pendergast…
Revisado: 09-24-23
I love the story. A little slow at the beginning, but when it picks up, it is truly gripping. My only peeve with the story, is that I figured out who the killer was six hours before the end of the book. Yikes. I hate when that happens. I like surprise endings. The very last revelation though was a total surprise. So I am still happy with the book. I hope Corrie will come back in the future. She is a great character. A very interesting counterpoint to Pendergast. And she alone can push him out of his comfort zone. In a nice way. Scott Brick was fine, at times really good, at others a little too « Scott Brick ». But it didn’t distract from the narrative.

Harlan Coben is a great mystery writer BUT…
Revisado: 11-10-21
… he should leave the reading of his books to professional narrators. I did not enjoy his reading at all. He has a nice voice, but he is no Scott Bricks, and he flattened his own text!!

One of Coben’s best
Revisado: 11-07-21
I have read 13 books by Harlan Coben, and, in my opinion, No Second Chance is the one where he best weaves plots to intelligently confuse the reader and keeps her on her toes. The multiple punchlines are masterfully crafted, and the story, maybe because it involves a toddler and her father, is intensely gripping and emotional… but, in Coben’s fashion, not saccharine. This book definitely kept my life on hold until the end.

The Narrator killed it
Revisado: 10-31-21
I am going to repeat what I read again and again in the reviews: Angela Dawe ruined the book. She might very well be the worst narrator I have heard in my almost 15 years of Audible. Maybe I was lucky before. Even if I don't love a narrator, if the book is good, I manage to ignore them. But this time, it was impossible. I gave up after 15 minutes. She sounded like she was spoofing it. At some point, I thought that her annoying affectation (which soon became downright infuriating), was a way of distinguishing the narrator in the story from the rest of the characters. Although that didn't explain why she had to shout in the microphone to describe the most mundane detail of a scene. Alas, all the characters had that ridiculous cadence.
So aggravating to give up a Coben!!! I am returning it.

Not my favorite
Revisado: 10-08-21
What I like—love and admire- in Coben’s books, is the very complicated multi-plot narrative. After “Tell No one”, I found Six Years a little flat. Not crazy about the dialogues either. Also a bit flat and repetitive. And a couple of loose ends in the plot. But I still read the whole book in one sitting.

Historia
Paris, 1572.
