Women can be heroes. When twenty-year-old nursing student Frances “Frankie” McGrath hears these words, it is a revelation. Raised in the sun-drenched, idyllic world of Southern California and sheltered by her conservative parents, she has always prided herself on doing the right thing. Powerful
Revisado: 06-16-24
I didn’t think I would be interested in reliving the Vietnam war. I was so wrong. The story was entirely captivating. And I never knew what the female vets went through in particular. It was also so good to hear the human side of the fighting, the sacrifice, dedication, comradery- a book everyone should read

Historia
1828. Robin Swift, orphaned by cholera in Canton, is brought to London by the mysterious Professor Lovell. There, he trains for years in Latin, Ancient Greek, and Chinese, all in preparation for the day he’ll enroll in Oxford University’s prestigious Royal Institute of Translation—also known as Babel. Babel is the world's center for translation and, more importantly, magic. Silver working—the art of manifesting the meaning lost in translation using enchanted silver bars—has made the British unparalleled in power, as its knowledge serves the Empire’s quest for colonization.

Fantastic story- a must read
Revisado: 09-08-22
What an intriguing and compelling story! The characters are so rich - I was so wrapped up in every phase of their lives/growth/ emotions etc. the background on translation and entomology was fascinating and added such color to the story of colonization. Well written- couldn’t put it down- will be on best seller’s list before long! Highly recommend for so many reasons

Historia
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

So interesting and so much I forgot
Revisado: 03-06-21
I listened to this on a whim and didn’t think it would be that interesting. It was fascinating. So much I didn’t know and so much forgotten history. It gives you such a perspective on where we are now . It will surprise you on who we owe some of that to! The dramatizations make it come alive and make it really fun to listen to - a very enjoyable retelling of the space exploration.

Historia
Nora Kelly, a young curator at the Santa Fe Institute of Archaeology, is approached by historian Clive Benton with a once-in-a-lifetime proposal: to lead a team in search of the so-called "Lost Camp" of the tragic Donner Party. Benton tells Kelly he has stumbled upon an amazing find: the long-sought diary of one of the victims, which has an enigmatic description of the Lost Camp. Nora agrees to lead an expedition to locate and excavate it-to reveal its long-buried secrets. Once in the mountains, they learn that discovering the camp is only the first step in a mounting journey of fear.

Interesting story
Revisado: 09-28-19
Enjoyed the story and historical detail but the writing was a bit thin with too many predictable metaphors and comparisons. I also felt like there was a lack of research on the nature side of things that really bugged me - a meadow doesn't stay a meadow for over a 150 years even in high elevations! Nature systems are not static. I agree with other reviewers that the accent at the end was incredibly annoying. Almost gave up on the story until the detective was introduced as the writing around those scenes seemed less stiff and so I kept going.

Historia
A millennium into the future two advancements have altered the course of human history: the colonization of the galaxy and the creation of the positronic brain. Isaac Asimov's Robot novels chronicle the unlikely partnership between a New York City detective and a humanoid robot who must learn to work together. Like most people left behind on an over-populated Earth, New York City police detective Elijah Baley had little love for either the arrogant Spacers or their robotic companions.

Historia
Jerusalem is the universal city, the capital of two peoples, the shrine of three faiths; it is the prize of empires, the site of Judgement Day and the battlefield of today’s clash of civilizations. From King David to Barack Obama, from the birth of Judaism, Christianity and Islam to the Israel-Palestine conflict, this is the epic history of three thousand years of faith, slaughter, fanaticism and coexistence. This is how Jerusalem became Jerusalem, and the only city that exists twice - in heaven and on earth.

a must read to understand current conflict
Revisado: 03-11-18
An amazing detailed yet comprehensive history of Jerusalem. Should be a must read for anyone interested in middle East peace as well as human history. Human history is never simple and righteousness and atrocities are found are all sides. we have lost the notion that history is key to reaching current understanding - a true tradegy. though dense with facts and details - I have to relisten to parts many times - still approachable to the sweeping history that is Jerusalem.

Historia
The Irish-American story, with all its twists and triumphs, is told through the improbable life of one man. A dashing young orator during the Great Famine of the 1840s, in which a million of his Irish countrymen died, Thomas Francis Meagher led a failed uprising against British rule, for which he was banished to a Tasmanian prison colony. He escaped and six months later was heralded in the streets of New York - the revolutionary hero, back from the dead, at the dawn of the great Irish immigration to America.

Historia
It's June in Montreal, and Dr. Temperance Brennan, who has left a shaky marriage back home in North Carolina to take on the challenging assignment of Director of Forensic Anthropology for the province of Quebec, looks forward to a relaxing weekend in beautiful Quebec City. First, though, she must stop at a newly uncovered burial site in the heart of the city. The remains are probably old and only of archeological interest, but Tempe must make sure they're not a case for the police. One look at the decomposed and decapitated corpse, stored neatly in plastic bags, tells her she'll spend the weekend in the crime lab.
