Historia
In the 25th century, humankind has spread throughout the galaxy, monitored by the watchful eye of the U.N. While divisions in race, religion, and class still exist, advances in technology have redefined life itself. Now, assuming one can afford the expensive procedure, a person's consciousness can be stored in a cortical stack at the base of the brain and easily downloaded into a new body (or "sleeve") making death nothing more than a minor blip on a screen.

Great sci-fi, recommended, except for the sex
Revisado: 03-05-08
I haven't read, or listened to, much sci-fi recently so thought I would give this a try and was very pleased with my decision. Set in a vivdly imagined future it cracks on at a decent pace with an absorbing plot. The action is intense and, on occasion, gory. They did a great job with the editing and the narration is first class. My only complaint would be the sex, slightly cringworthy I thought and about as sexy as a slobbery kiss. Fast forward through those and it's a great first novel.

"If Robert Littell didn't invent the American spy novel," says Tom Clancy, "he should have." In this spectacular Cold-War-as-Alice-in-Wonderland epic, Littell, "the American le Carre," takes us down the rabbit hole and into the labyrinthine world of espionage that has been the CIA for the last half-century. "Ostensibly a single novel, The Company can also be listened to as an anthology of cracking good spy stories," says ( Publishers Weekly).

Fantastic, loved every moment
Revisado: 11-27-07
I have enjoyed this more than any other audiobook to date. Wonderfully read with the different accents and voices really adding to the atmosphere of the book. Obviously none of that would mean anything unless the story is first class and this is exactly that, an epic tale of the CIA with interesting characters and an absorbing plot . It's long but worth it. Highly recommended.

Historia
In his final hours in the Oval Office, the outgoing President grants a controversial last-minute pardon to Joel Backman, a notorious Washington power broker who has spent the last six years hidden away in a federal prison. What no one knows is that the President issues the pardon only after receiving enormous pressure from the CIA. It seems Backman, in his power broker heyday, may have obtained secrets that compromise the world’s most sophisticated satellite surveillance system.

Not Grisham's finest hour (s)
Revisado: 12-12-06
I've always enjoyed Grisham's novels but hadn't read or heard one for a while so thought I would give this a try. I'm sorry to say I was disappointed, the first six hours were repetitive and boring whilst the second six seemed to have been dashed off by a writer who seemed to be desperate to cut his losses and run.
There's much more worthwhile ways to spend your time than on this one.

Opinion here seems to be pretty polarised between those who think this is as hot as a Toronto sidewalk in high summer and those who have heard sexier stories watching the news. I'm in the latter camp unfortunately, I thought they were all pretty dismal. It does make my commute slightly more interesting, though I am paranoid that my headphones may be "leaking" and the reading isn't too bad but I'd find it v hard to recommend these at tall.

Combines humour and an infectious sense of adventure really well. He's as interested in the human side of his travel as much as the buildings and countryside and it's the characters in the book that make it as absorbing and inspiring. Highly recommended.

Stephen King's second novel, Salem's Lot, is the story of a mundane town under siege from the forces of darkness. Considered one of the most terrifying vampire novels ever written, it cunningly probes the shadows of the human heart and the insular evils of small-town America.

Awesome
Revisado: 03-22-06
I'd read the book and seen the film (also a classic with David Soul) so had to try the audiobook. Very impressive stuff, really well read and produced, highly atmospheric, I listen on the train and even during the day, surrounded by people found myself getting scared. Can't recommend enough, buy it today.

Disappointed
Revisado: 11-10-05
I'm surprised by some of the reviews on here. I was disappointed by this audible book, I found the main protagonist faintly irritating, the plot thin and obvious. Slobbish male cop teamed with beautiful female cop who's career hangs on this one case, what a cliche! Can't recommend I'm afraid.

For John Chatterton and Richie Kohler, deep wreck diving was more than a sport.
