Was very close to DNF this one
Revisado: 04-16-25
Unfortunately, this one wasn't for me. The premise is good, but that's pretty much it. Unlikeable characters, too many things going on (yet it was still boring), unbelievable dialogue. I felt like I was watching a bad soap drama and I rolled my eyes so much they hurt. I feel like this should have been marketed as a contemporary novel rather than a romance.

Exciting story
Revisado: 02-11-25
Cruel is the Light is an action-packed fantasy featuring a centuries-old war between demons and the Vatican, a reluctant alliance, and a forbidden romance. Selene Alleva, a high-ranking exorcist with a dark family legacy, and Jules Lacroix, an orphaned deserter, are forced to work together despite their immediate distrust—and undeniable attraction.
Tropes:
📖 Fake engagement
⚔️ Enemies to lovers
⛔ Forbidden romance
🌞 Reverse grumpy x sunshine
🗡️ Knife to throat
🏰 Forced proximity
One of my favourite aspects of this book was the banter. It’s been a long time since I’ve enjoyed such a high-quality level of witty, engaging dialogue. The dynamic between Selene and Jules made for an incredibly fun reading experience, adding both humour and depth to their relationship. Their push-and-pull tension kept me hooked, and I loved the way their interactions evolved over time.
While I thoroughly enjoyed the book, there were a few areas where I would have loved a bit more development. The transition from banter and flirtation to love happened a little quickly, and I think a slower progression would have made their relationship even more impactful. Given the horrors both characters endured, I would have also liked to see more exploration of trauma and emotional aftermath, which could add even more depth—perhaps in the sequel! Additionally, some parts of the world-building left me with questions, and a bit more clarity in certain areas would have helped ground me in the setting.
That said, Cruel is the Light is an intense, thrilling, and romantic fantasy with fantastic character dynamics, gripping tension, and plenty of action. I loved the chemistry between the leads and the high-stakes plot, and I’ll definitely be looking forward to the sequel!

Disappointing
Revisado: 02-11-25
I was really excited to listen to If the Ring Fits—I love rom-coms, and the premise sounded like the perfect mix of fun, chaos, and swoon-worthy romance. A fake engagement between two strangers who are complete opposites? Count me in!
There were definitely aspects I enjoyed. The fake engagement trope, combined with forced proximity and an undeniable attraction, made for some entertaining moments. The humour and banter kept the story moving, and I appreciated the lighthearted approach to romance. The story had some fun, rom-com-worthy scenarios, and I can see why many readers would find it an enjoyable, easy book.
That said, I did struggle with some aspects of the book. While I can usually embrace suspension of disbelief, there were moments when the plot felt a little too convenient, making it difficult for me to stay fully immersed. I also found it challenging to connect with Rowena—while I understood some of her actions given her circumstances, I struggled with certain aspects of her personality and choices. At times, she came across as immature and self-centered, which made it difficult to root for her.
Additionally, the book touches on some serious topics, which I appreciate seeing in romance. However, I personally felt that certain elements could have been handled with more depth and sensitivity.
Overall, If the Ring Fits had its enjoyable moments, and I can see it being a fun read for those who love fake engagement and opposites-attract romances. While it didn’t fully work for me, I’m sure fans of lighthearted, billionaire rom-coms will still find plenty to love.

Good listen
Revisado: 02-10-25
We Used to Be Magic is a beautifully written, painfully real story about grief, trauma, self-identity, and healing. Do not be fooled by the pastel-coloured cover—while this book has moments of levity, it also explores deep, emotional themes, so I highly recommend checking the trigger warnings beforehand.
The writing is raw and immersive, and I saw pieces of myself in both Ezra and Audrey’s journeys. I related to Ezra’s feelings of being lost, unsure of his future, while also connecting to Audrey’s experience of stepping into the world on her own, away from her family. As someone with PTSD, I found certain depictions of trauma to be very accurate, which made parts of the book deeply impactful.
That said, the ending felt somewhat rushed, particularly in how it approached recovery. The process was depicted in a way that felt more linear than it actually is, and I would have loved more time spent on the emotional journey rather than just the resolution. The book also sits in that in-between space—not quite YA, not quite NA, and not quite adult fiction, which made the narrative feel a little disjointed at times. The tone shift midway through almost felt like two different books in one, and I’m still processing how I feel about that.
And the ending… I’m still not sure what I think. Regardless, We Used to Be Magic is a thought-provoking and deeply human book. It’s one that lingers with you, and I know I’ll be thinking about it for a long time.

It seemed like a good idea at the time. Look up Landon Roderick, that boy from childhood whom I'd never been able to forget - even though he so easily forgot about me - and call him. Then again, anything sounds like a good idea when you've had a little too much wine before bed, right? It was supposed to be just a quick, meaningless prank call. Instead I went off on him - unloading 13 years of pent-up emotions. I didn't think he'd call me back.

Cute, fun book to pass time with. Wasn’t special, I probably won’t remember it well in the future. But it’s easy and somewhat light.

For one fantastic evening, at a masquerade party in the heart of Manhattan, I’m not the millionaire everyone wants a piece of. Fine—multimillionaire. But who’s counting all those commas? Not me, and not the most intriguing woman I've ever met, who happens to like dancing, witty banter, and hot, passionate up-against-the-wall sex as much as I do.

Okay-ish

Performance was great. The problem was the story. I guess 2.5 stars would be more accurate. It wasn’t bad... just wasn’t good. I don’t feel like I’ll remember this book. It wasn’t special or memorable... but it cleaned my head. So I guess... if you’re looking for a book to clear your mind, maybe this is for you.

Thanks to paper-thin walls and the guy’s athletic prowess, Carolyn is gaining an - um - intimate knowledge of her new neighbor's nocturnal adventures. And since Caroline is currently on a self-imposed "dating hiatus," and her neighbor is clearly lethally attractive to women, she finds her fantasies keep her awake even longer than the noise. So when the wallbanging threatens to literally bounce her out of bed, Caroline, clad in sexual frustration and a pink baby-doll nightie, confronts Simon Parker, her heard-but-never-seen neighbor.
