The entire story could have been told in 100 words or less. First part and last part could have been eliminated, as they add nothing to the story. They seem to have been more of an afterthought to bracket the short story. between.

Good character development theoughout such that I really cared about each person. None of that frustrating 'just TELL him/her your feelings' and quit the contrived misunderstandings. Just good storytelling.

Historia
Captain Sir Sheridan Drake is no knight in shining armor, even if he happens to be famous for his heroism. An exiled princess with revolutionary ideas is just a convenient opportunity to get himself out of debt. Princess Olympia isn't precisely fairy-tale royalty herself; she's plump and a little shy, and desperate to do something of importance in the world. But though their meeting begins with her hopeless hero worship, a harrowing journey to the bleak edge of the world will transform them both.

Just a terrible mess
Revisado: 01-23-16
Worst book ever. I can't tell you how many times I wanted to just slap the main characters, and I do mean each and every one of them I honestly don't know how I finished listening to it. I truly feel sorry for the narrator having to create so many whinny characters.
First Olympia loves the 'hero', supposedly betrayed then hates him like a petulant little schoolgirl. Sheridan, the decorated naval officer, schemes to have her, the Princess, as part of a political plot. Mustapha, his whiny, lying little Arab slave, (how stereotypical) conspires with him at every turn. Obviously he no longer knows the meaning of truth. All three characters are despicable
In some crazy, unbelievable twist , of which there are many, they become lovers but can never say the word love (as in all novels of this genre so I'm not giving anything away here) Vengence follows, then paradoxical love, followed by hate, in a virtual volleyball of feelings. Around and around the Mediterranean they go. where they stop is always an unpleasant surprise.
The minor characters are not any better. I kept wanting to kill them all off, maybe in a 'Kill Bill'' like massacre.

Historia
Ken Follett's World Without End was a global phenomenon, a work of grand historical sweep beloved by millions of readers and acclaimed by critics. Fall of Giants is his magnificent new historical epic. The first novel in The Century Trilogy, it follows the fates of five interrelated families - American, German, Russian, English, and Welsh - as they move through the world-shaking dramas of the First World War, the Russian Revolution, and the struggle for women's suffrage.

pedantic
Revisado: 05-14-15
The rulling aristocracy of Europe. Russia, and to a lesser extent the United States, are blissfully unaware of the conditions of the underclass. They work in dangerous circumstances, suffer hunger, lack access to good education and even adequate health care. they have no hope of a better future. Most importantly as a group they have no voice, except those brave few willing to risk imprisonment, pain and even their families and loves.
The story was frequently slow in the telling, offering too many details that made the story drag. While it is a depressing march towards WWI , more of the human story, more of the fictional side of historical fiction IMHO could have been created while still remaining historically accurate.

Great story vividly told plus sizzling sex
Revisado: 03-27-15
The story takes place over about three years centering around Dustin Barrington de Lorre and the two loves of her life, one moral and the other covetous, but both intense. Loyalty and betrayal on personal and political levels is a major unifying theme that keeps the story moving along. Amid the exciting. full scale battles and duels you will be rooting for your hero and crying when all seens lost.
Couldn't stop until the end and that meant missing a lot of slrep then rewinding back to get parts I missed when I did nod off. Some annoying production glitches (duplicate lines, mispronunciations in context, etc) but over 30+ hours, forgivable.
