Historia
Walt thinks he might find the answers he's looking for among the ruins of an old Native American boarding school—an institution designed to strip Native children of their heritage. He has been haunted by the image of the Fort Pratt Industrial Indian Training School ever since he first saw a faded postcard picturing a hundred boys in uniform, in front of a large, ominous building—a postcard that was given to him by Jimmy Lane, the father of Jeanie One Moon.

Fantastic environmental thriller w wow storyline
Revisado: 11-14-21
The winter environment is as strong a character as the female heroine and the villainous bad guys and gal. A nail biter that keeps you surprised throughout. A revelation about the stalker from A Solitude of Wolves also. I'm listening to it for the 3rd time in a week. Can't wait for Henderson s next great book. They get better and better!

Historia
You know her voice. Now hear her story.
Audible has teamed up with Rolling Stone to produce an uncompromisingly honest Audible Original that honors the life and legacy of the incomparable Aretha Franklin. Aretha’s universal appeal was evident from the release of her first album at age 14 through her nearly 50 Top 40 hits. Yet this intimate biography reminds us that Aretha knew pain as much as she knew glory. It was the blues, residing deep within her soul, that gave way to a voice able to lift millions with a profound sense of freedom, self-worth, and undeniable talent to rise above sorrow.

Royal Story about the Queen of Soul - Aretha
Revisado: 04-03-21
Adenrelo Ojo had a majestic and musical narration for this wonderful biography of Aretha Franklin. It is a rich and detailed story of Aretha's complex family and musical life.
The only negative is the amount of references that included author, book or journal title, and other things that should have been included as footnotes or endnotes. Those references interrupted the story narrative and made it confusing.
It is wonderful to listen to this and then compare it to Genius: Aretha the tv narrative and see how much liberties were taken to romanticize Aretha's life - something the family is against and is combatting with their own story upcoming.
A definite must to listen to about a wonderful singer!

African Giraffes cross the US during the dirty 30s
Revisado: 03-08-21
Lynda Rutledge tells a remarkable story set in post depression era America. An older man and a teen boy travel with 2 giraffes in a custom built truck across the US to the San Diego Zoo. We see and feel how different times must have been in the people, in the roads, and the society - including the "homeless" from the dust bowl that were kept out of California by border patrols. There is despair, hope, danger, fear, and the beautiful love and care between man and "beasts" - the lovely giraffes. A must for any history buff and any animal lover.

Lost story of the American West
Revisado: 03-08-21
Amy Harton wrote this wonderful novel from the viewpoint of a Naomi a white woman and John Lowry a half Pawnee man. Traveling across the west, fighting off other tribes and cholera, and then kidnapping and murder, What could have broken them down makes them fight harder to survive and to show us how difficult it must have been. Amy Harton is a compelling author!

Revisado: 03-08-21
Mike Bond is an excellent, descriptive author. The narration by Simon Mattacks was relentless. There isn't any hope or redemption for any of the characters. It was a horrid fascination that led me to finish this book filled with despair and futility.

Historia
One of the most viewed paintings in American history, Custer's Last Fight, copied and distributed by Anheuser-Busch at a rate of more than two million copies a year, was destroyed in a fire at the 7th Cavalry Headquarters in Fort Bliss, Texas, in 1946. Or was it? When Charley Lee Stillwater dies of an apparent heart attack at the Wyoming Home for Soldiers & Sailors, Walt Longmire is called in to try and make sense of a piece of a painting and a Florsheim shoebox containing a million dollars, sending the good sheriff on the trail of a dangerous art heist.

SNORE - The worst Longmire book to date!
Revisado: 09-26-20
In one chapter, Vic and Walt are at the library. Walt is droning on and on and on about the history of Custer's last stand painting. Vic is seated but sprawled across the table in complete boredom. That's how I felt. I think Johnson was indulging in his dream of being a history instructor, but to have Walt endlessly reading or quoting from books was completely boring. If I were to create a plot line - with action points - there would be very little in this book.
There wasn't much of a story and I kept falling asleep. I'm a big fan of Johnson's Longmire mysteries. But this will be the first one I return.
Big inconsistency - Walt arrests a man who has kidnapped his ex-wife and kids from Ohio. Instead of returning him to Ohio to face the courts, he ships him back to San Jose, CA for other crimes. What crimes.
Spoiler - you will spot who the final criminals are early on (after the ages and ages of Last Stand history.
I mean really - I kept falling asleep throughout this book. The end was "charming" but that's not the point of Longmire mysteries.
