Historia
Blood of Elves: Booktrack Edition adds an immersive musical soundtrack to your audiobook listening experience! The New York Times best-selling series that inspired the international hit video game: The Witcher. For over a century, humans, dwarves, gnomes, and elves have lived together in relative peace. But times have changed, the uneasy peace is over, and now the races are fighting once again. The only good elf, it seems, is a dead elf. Geralt of Rivia, the cunning assassin known as The Witcher, has been waiting for the birth of a prophesied child.

Differing perspective on Ciri
Revisado: 12-01-24
Having read the entire series, I can say that most of it is very Geralt centric and his relationship with Ciri. This book did a fantastic job showing us another deep relationship that Ciri has with another main character. And this relationship has arguably as much importance on her ultimate arc as does her bond with Geralt.

So incredibly slow story
Revisado: 10-06-24
This book takes forever to get going in any meaningful way. They start out with a very strong tease that only painfully continues for another couple of hours without any development. Best of luck to those willing to stick it out for the payoff. I couldn’t.

Scott Bricks impact on The Passage
Revisado: 09-29-24
Scott Brick is one of the most notable and prolific narrators in the history of Audible as far as I know it. He also tends to circle around a particular set of genres. Scott always reads with intent and emotion. But he also tends to have a limited range of sounds and character voices.
So why does all this matter for The Passage? Because at some point not terribly far into the book, The Passage begins to sound like every other Scott Brick book. Every character arc sounds like all the typical character arcs from books Scott Brick has narrated. If I were reading the physical book, I’m sure the authors voice would remain a lot more prominent. But I’m listening to this audiobook. And the narrator’s voice drowns out the author’s voice for me. It had trouble at times staying engaged as I often said to myself “have I read this before???” as The Passage started to sound like the dozens of other Brick books I’ve heard.
The book is a very fine book. It has a good overall plot though you really do need to make sure you’re following the subtleties of the major plot jumps/moves. Typical themes for a book of this subject matter (trying not to spoil here) but addressed with some nuance. It is a bit long though. Inevitably people will negatively compare it to The Stand and not unjustifiably so.
Lastly, I’m not critiquing Brick as such just making a commentary on how his popularity in the industry made me feel about this particular book.

No need to reach to be original in this review. Like many others have noted Andy Serkis makes this book shine like the staff of Gandalf in the mines of Moria. Fantastic performance!

Solid if Familiar Story Questionable Narration
Revisado: 06-24-24
Liked the story and the divergence from his normal themes. The character introduction in the second half creates a dynamic that I feel like is pretty well trodden (no spoilers). The narration left a bit to be desired. It seems like every character was a couple degrees off of what the character should have been in terms of tone and inflection. It adds up over the entire listen.

In the middle of the night, in a house on a quiet street in suburban Minneapolis, intruders silently murder Luke Ellis' parents and load him into a black SUV. The operation takes less than two minutes. Luke will wake up at The Institute, in a room that looks just like his own, except there's no window. And outside his door are other doors, behind which are other kids with special talents - telekinesis and telepathy - who got to this place the same way Luke did: Kalisha, Nick, George, Iris, and 10-year-old Avery Dixon.

Amazing Story Audiobook Issues
Revisado: 06-14-24
The story is vintage and is absolutely 5 stars. Issues with the audiobook as the book chapters and Table of Contents don’t align with the underlying source material. Still worth the buy but an annoying issue nonetheless.

Charlie Reade looks like a regular high school kid, great at baseball and football, a decent student. But he carries a heavy load. His mom was killed in a horrific accident when he was seven, and grief drove his dad to drink. Charlie learned how to take care of himself—and his dad. When Charlie is seventeen, he meets a dog named Radar and her aging master, Howard Bowditch, a recluse in a big house at the top of a big hill, with a locked shed in the backyard. Sometimes strange sounds emerge from that shed.

Fantastic story, Fantastic narration!
Revisado: 06-09-24
The Master of Horror shows yet again that he is a true expert at the fantasy genre. The story develops at a good pace and brings you into another complex King world. Ending leaves a bit to be desired but no real complaints. Oh and PERFECT narration. Highly recommend!

It’s 1984, and life has changed beyond recognition. Airstrip One, formerly known as Great Britain, is a place where Big Brother is always watching, and nobody can hide. Except, perhaps, for Winston Smith. Whilst working at the Ministry of Truth, rewriting history, he secretly dreams of freedom. And in a world where love and sex are forbidden, where it’s hard to distinguish between friend and foe, he meets Julia and O’Brien and vows to rebel.

Way Overacted and Produced
Revisado: 04-13-24
I get the concept of the production here but it was unnecessarily over the top. The greatest irony was that it was overacted by skilled professional actors. Garfield was particularly objectionable. You would have thought he was trying out for an off Broadway play.

Tom Wolfe - one of the 20th century’s foremost voices in cultural criticism - went from local news reporter to international icon in 1968, with the publication of The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test. Now voiced with vivacity and vigor by Audible Hall of Fame narrator Luke Daniels, the non-fiction swan-dive delves into the world of hippies, hedonism, and everything in between.

Fantastic Performance of a Great Book
Revisado: 03-17-23
First the performance. Like Daniels is one of my favorite narrators and proves why again here. He reads his works like he wrote them and captures character time and place like no other. The work itself is top notch. It’s based on a true story so the narrative kinda is what it is but like hey man f*** it, go along for the ride. And don’t forget rule #1 - never trust a prankster.

Historia
You may be surprised to learn that microchips are the new oil—the scarce resource on which the modern world depends. Today, military, economic, and geopolitical power are built on a foundation of computer chips. Virtually everything—from missiles to microwaves—runs on chips, including cars, smartphones, the stock market, even the electric grid. Until recently, America designed and built the fastest chips and maintained its lead as the #1 superpower, but America’s edge is in danger of slipping, undermined by players in Taiwan, Korea, and Europe taking over manufacturing.
