Historia
Gunter K. Koschorrek was a machine-gunner on the Russian front in WWII. He wrote his illicit diary on any scraps of paper he could lay his hands on. As keeping a diary was strictly forbidden, he sewed the pages into the lining of his thick winter coat and deposited them with his mother on infrequent trips home on leave. The diary went missing, and it was when he was reunited with his daughter in America some 40 years later that it came to light and became Blood Red Snow.

Awesome
Revisado: 11-05-23
As of 2023 I believe the author is 100 years old and still alive. That he lived to tell the tale is amazing enough, but he’s also a good human being and if it weren’t for a daughter he hadn’t seen in decades, who held on to these scraps of diary because that’s all she had to remember him, we would be so much poorer in the realm of eyewitness accounts from the Wehrmacht.

Historia
They are icons of the literary world whose soaring works have been discussed and analyzed in countless classrooms, homes, and pubs. Yet for most listeners, the living, breathing human beings behind the classics have remained unknown - until now. In this utterly captivating audiobook, Dr. Elliot Engel, a leading authority on the lives of great authors, illuminates the fascinating and flawed members of literature's elite. In lieu of stuffy biographical sketches, Engel provides fascinating anecdotes.

Any additional comments?
It was fun to learn about these authors, but I noticed that some of the facts regarding Poe's life were wrong. Otherwise a great listen.

Historia
The author of the immortal Lolita and Pale Fire, born to an eminent Russian family, conjures the apotheosis of the high modernist artist: cultured, refined - as European as they come. But Vladimir Nabokov, who came to America fleeing the Nazis, came to think of his time here as the richest of his life. Indeed, Nabokov was not only happiest here, but his best work flowed from his response to this exotic land.

Would you listen to Nabokov in America again? Why?
Yes, I love to learn about Nabokov.
Any additional comments?
This is more of a commentary on Nabokov's life in America than on Lolita. Still very entertaining though.

Historia
Old Path White Clouds presents the life and teachings of Gautama Buddha. Drawn directly from 24 Pali, Sanskrit, and Chinese sources, and retold by Thich Nhat Hanh in his inimitably beautiful style, this book traces the Buddha's life slowly and gently over the course of 80 years, partly through the eyes of Svasti, the buffalo boy, and partly through the eyes of the Buddha himself. Old Path White Clouds is destined to become a classic of religious literature.
