What a story, and what an artist Grann is in this recreating such an epic journey. Others have criticized the narrator, but we found him absolutely incredible—telling the story with exquisite skill. In fact, I have told others it is the beat narration Ive ever heard from any Audible book. Just saying!

What a gift it has been to step into the heart of gaming and understand it in a new and insightful way. The unfolding of friendships and the character development and their maturing is so well done. I highly recommend this audible book.

Superb narration

The story is heart wrenching, but the narrator an excellent job. Intonations, pauses, character accents all made the trauma easier to stay in the story. And Kingsolver does great research and addresses, contemporary issues head-on.

Olivia always sounded angry, whiney and disrespectful. I have loved reading any Kristen Hannah book, and was so disappointed that the voice of such an important main character would be, in my opinion, so egregiously misunderstood. Instead of a wounded, broken hearted divorcee, she came across as an entitled, belligerent adolescent.

I have hot the 30seconds back button on this book so many, many times. I want to hold each tender thought with full-armed understanding. And then Ive looped back to the start of the chapter — I listen, then listen again, and then again. Not because I don’t “get it”. I do! I just want to live it. There is so much (as G says:) religious malpractice, but I want the whole language of kinship. Thanks G.

Beautifully read, woven together with flavors that don’t seem to hold together but then they do. Erin’s honesty, transparency and warrior heart comes through in her voice and in the telling. I didn’t know anything about her, but I couldn’t stop listening. Thank you for hope and courage and the work it took to tell it.

Any cradle Catholic from a devout family will nod and smile totally “getting it”. The story weaves such strong friends that grow up and grow old together while being true to their character and personal brokenness. I loved this book. Thank you, Robert.
