Historia
In May 1940, Nazi Germany was master of continental Europe. The only European power still standing was Great Britain - and the all-conquering German armed forces stood poised to cross the Channel. Following the destruction of the RAF fighter forces, the sweeping of the Channel of mines, and the wearing down of the Royal Naval defenders, two German army groups were set to storm the beaches of southern England.

There’s Good And Bad Here
Revisado: 03-16-23
As a relative novice to Sealion, I learned a lot listening to this book and I purchased it as an ebook for future reference. There’s a lot of bloat, though. Entire chapters are devoted to matters connected to Sealion only due to the timeframe in which they occurred and the fact they involved Germany vs UK. That’s forgivable. What isn’t forgivable is the narrator’s insistence on referring to “the World War I” and “the World War II.” Every. Single. Time. It was so annoying that I actually went to the ebook to see if that’s the way the author wrote it. He did not. While it didn’t completely ruin the audiobook for me, it certainly made for some irritating moments.

Historia
D-Day, June 6, 1944, and the 76 days of bitter fighting in Normandy that followed the Allied landing, have become the defining episode of World War II in the west - the object of books, films, television series, and documentaries. Yet as familiar as it is, as James Holland makes clear in his definitive history, many parts of the OVERLORD campaign, as it was known, are still shrouded in myth and assumed knowledge.

Excellent All-Around
Revisado: 06-07-20
Can we ever have too many perspectives on the Battle of Normandy? I think not. In this Holland provides a new perspective on a history that is well-known to WWII buffs. Special credit goes to the narrator who can either speak both German and French, or can at least fake it. His pronunciation of words and place-names in both languages is spot-on and makes for a more enjoyable listening experience to me.

Historia
While the Germans knew an invasion was inevitable, no one knew where or when it would fall. Those manning Hitler's mighty Atlantic Wall may have felt secure in their bunkers, but they had no conception of the fury and fire that was about to break. After the initial assaults of June established an Allied bridgehead, a state of stalemate prevailed. The Germans fought with great courage - hindered by lack of supplies and overwhelming Allied control of the air. This book describes the catastrophe that followed, in a unique look at the war from the losing side.

Excellent History
Revisado: 06-07-20
This is an excellent history of the other side in the Battle of Normandy. It is marred, however, by a poor narrator. I don't mind English narrators at all; some are excellent. What I do mind, though, are British narrators pronouncing German and French words with a British accent. It's like fingernails on a blackboard. All audiobooks that include non-English words or place-names should require that the narrator be able to pronounce them correctly!
