Historia
All Systems Red is the tense first science fiction adventure novella in Martha Wells' series The Murderbot Diaries. For fans of Westworld, Ex Machina, Ann Leckie's Imperial Raadch series, or Iain M. Banks' Culture novels. The main character is a deadly security droid that has bucked its restrictive programming and is balanced between contemplative self-discovery and an idle instinct to kill all humans.

Good but expensive for 3 hours
Revisado: 01-27-23
It really needs to be sold as a set. But good fun story. Just expensive to buy each individual book.

Historia
The Merry Band of Pirates offered the bad guys a ceasefire. We won’t mess with them, if they don’t mess with us. Easy, right? No. The aliens chose to do things the hard way. So, the Pirates are racing around the galaxy to clean up the threat to Earth. The infant UN Navy has their own mission with the Alien Legion: Get humanity some allies in the fight. And the Ethics & Compliance Office might have to do something...ethical. Unless they can find a way around it.

Historia
Newtonian physics described a regular, clock-like world of forces and reaction; randomness was equated with incomplete knowledge. But scientists in the late 20th century have found patterns in things formerly thought to be "chaotic"; their theories help explain the unstable, irregular, yet highly structured features of everyday experience. It now seems likely that randomness and chaos play an essential role in the evolution of the living world and in intelligence itself.

Constantly attack physicists without any evidence
Revisado: 05-07-21
The author continually makes claims about how scientists avoided any complex questions, like how a tornado forms, or how a human is formed from two cells. These claims are made many times throughout, without a even a single bit of evidence to support these attacks.
I don't know the author seems to hate scientists so much, but it makes it very difficult to get through the book.

Historia
Children are not supposed to rescue their parents, life is supposed to be the other way around. And rescues aren't supposed to be needed on the trip out to the new colony planet Valhalla. Slow, yes. Boring, yes. Dangerous? No, the trip is not supposed to be dangerous, never has been. When thieves attack the transport ship to steal an ancient alien artifact, and young Kaylee and her brother, Manny, are cut off from their parents, they have to stop the thieves from getting what they want.

Good, but it's youth fiction
Revisado: 05-02-21
Good, but it's for maybe 10 to 16 year old children. Adults will probably find it too eye rolling. Audio could have done with some minor sound effects. Eg for static, instead of the narrator literally reading "qssh!" etc.

Historia
Whether pondering black holes or predicting discoveries at CERN, physicists believe the best theories are beautiful, natural, and elegant, and this standard separates popular theories from disposable ones. This is why, Sabine Hossenfelder argues, we have not seen a major breakthrough in the foundations of physics for more than four decades. The belief in beauty has become so dogmatic that it now conflicts with scientific objectivity: Observation has been unable to confirm mindboggling theories, like supersymmetry or grand unification, invented by physicists based on aesthetic criteria.

Absolutely awful
Revisado: 04-28-21
Author hates that physicists look for simplicity in the theories, and then build accelerators etc to look for more data. And then claims that this approach doesn't work.
Yet the LHC, the largest accelerator, has already found the Higgs Boson, exactly atls predicted by those theorists, and is still being upgraded right now to probe further. The underground detectors that she attacks have also yielded very useful results in how neutrinos change, and thus must travel slower than light etc.
There are mathematical proofs for why we would expect a more simple proof to be more likely to be correct than an arbitrary more complex one, which anyone can Google for if they care, but it is simpler to just point out that it has been proven to work.
Author is just way too arrogant, pretending that all other scientiats must be stupid for not agreeing with her.

Historia
A century ago very few people dreamed of space travel. Today it is the most daring and technologically sophisticated quest ever undertaken, being driven not just by government agencies such as NASA and ESA, but also by visionaries such as Richard Branson (Virgin Galactic), Elon Musk (SpaceX) and Jeff Bezos (Blue Origin). To mark the 50th anniversary of the 1969 moon landing, this major drama-documentary series charts the definitive story of the past, present and future of humankind’s exploration of space. The Space Race is narrated by Kate Mulgrew and features a full cast.

Great overview for the non technical
Revisado: 04-04-21
It was very well done. I personally would have liked more technical info, but I can see how they wanted to keep the length down.
There's a constant attack on "white males" and how women are better, which makes historical sense, but can start to feel a bit much imho. I didn't really see how an all woman crew is somehow better than a mixed gender crew etc.

I loved the story, although hated how difficult audible made it to listen to it. I didn't like the very end, where the whole group decides to take along a destructive asshole with them. That made absolutely no sense to me.

That audio performance was a serious notch up from the previous books. A song, music backing, sound effects. All perfectly timed to not interfere with this story. Absolutely amazing!

Fun but scientifically bad
Revisado: 08-15-20
The title of the book had nothing to do with the story at all, and the one mention of dark matter was scientifically wrong. He said dark matter holds stars together. But the theory is that it holds galaxies together.
The professor was extremely stupid and continually misses obvious ideas. They can make an infinite number of his wife and kid. Enough for every Jason. So why not just do that?
