Historia
Mark Mathabane was weaned on devastating poverty and schooled in the cruel streets of South Africa’s most desperate ghetto, where bloody gang wars and midnight police raids were his rites of passage. Like every other child born in the hopelessness of apartheid, he learned to measure his life in days, not years. Yet Mark Mathabane, armed only with the courage of his family and a hard-won education, raised himself up from the squalor and humiliation to win a scholarship to an American university.

Historia
I was born and broken in Birkenhead, abused from infancy by a network of every kind of pervert from ‘thinks it’s love’ to ‘show it hurts’. I was unwanted, beaten, sold, swapped, photographed, filmed, left for dead, corrupted, blamed, betrayed, ignored and orphaned. But I was also born with a fire inside me. I call it my Phoenix Fire. I am no victim—that word only describes what happened to me. Nor am I a survivor because that implies I am over it. I am a Phoenix—a work in progress. This is my story....

I am an avid reader and have become an ice queen to emotional sagas. I tell you with astonishment that you will not be able to finish this book without weeping. The tears will not be all sorrowful, but filled with inspiration and humility.

Historia
I spent five years in five concentration camps. All the atrocities I saw haunt me, so I write to process the past. I will never be able to erase from my memory the picture of Birkenau, where one year seemed a thousand years, where thousands of men and women from all parts of the world found an untimely end. Five years seem a short space of time, but more crimes were committed during that period than during the past five centuries.

I can't get past more than a few minutes because the speaker is so bad… I don't think I've ever written a negative review on here, but I had to warn people not to purchase the audio version of this story.
I knew there was trouble when the speaker couldn't pronounce Auschwitz or Dachau correctly.

Historia
At the Mind's Limits is the story of one man's incredible struggle to understand the reality of horror. In five autobiographical essays, Amery describes his survival - mental, moral, and physical - through the enormity of the Holocaust. Above all, this masterful record of introspection tells of a young Viennese intellectual's fervent vision of human nature and the betrayal of that vision.
