I really liked reading about Cormoran’s modifications into maturity. Both in his actions and his thinking.

Disappointing
Revisado: 01-30-24
I thought I must have downloaded the wrong book. I really enjoyed The Life We Bury and I was eager to read the next one. This book is listed as #2 in the Joe Talbert series. Is Joe Talbert even mentioned in this book?
I wasn’t crazy about the narration, but I can usually get over that pretty quickly. But this story was just…. bad. I had to check again to make sure I downloaded the right book. On goodreads Joe Talbert #2 is listed as The Shadows We Hide. The Guise of Another is listed as a book in the Max Rupert series.
Anyways, I may be crazy, but I’m going to listen to The Shadows We Hide before I give up on Allen Eskens. I’m hoping it will continue the Joe and Lila storyline.

Historia
In the first book of this brilliant series, Stephen King introduces listeners to one of his most powerful creations: Roland of Gilead, The Last Gunslinger. He is a haunting figure, a loner on a spellbinding journey into good and evil. In his desolate world, which frighteningly mirrors our own, Roland tracks The Man in Black, encounters an enticing woman named Alice, and begins a friendship with the boy from New York named Jake.

This first book was a bit confusing, but after I got into the second book, it started to make sense. The series is incredible. The gunslinger may be my favorite King character of all.

Historia
In a future so real and near it might be now, something happens when women go to sleep: They become shrouded in a cocoon-like gauze. If they are awakened, if the gauze wrapping their bodies is disturbed or violated, the women become feral and spectacularly violent; and while they sleep they go to another place.... The men of our world are abandoned, left to their increasingly primal devices. One woman, however, the mysterious Evie, is immune to the blessing or curse of the sleeping disease.

About 99% certain these 1star reviews are not real
Revisado: 04-29-23
First of all. I just couldn’t figure out what was making these 1star reviewers so angry. I’m certain none of them read the book. Or if they did, they didn’t make it past the first chapter.
The book really took off after the second or third chapter. Interesting premise. Funny at times. It was a cross of Orange is the New Black with The Walking Dead. But with a King twist. And yes, many of the characters are female. Maybe this upsets people? It is not my favorite King book, but entertaining all the same. ( My favs are The Shining, The Stand, The Dark Tower Series, Misery) I completed all of my yard work and binged it all in 2 days. The reviews about politics are all nonsense.

Yes. It really is that bad. I have no problem with sex. I have no problem with violence or psychological torture. But I have a big problem with bad writing. This is like reading a 7th grader try their hand at a 50-Shades type novel. It’s filled with cringe worthy dialogue. Just say no.

Excellent narration. Give it a listen!
Revisado: 09-08-22
I’ve read reviews that seem to dislike the back and forth texts on the blog posts. I must say, the narrator is excellent. Those types of scenarios are difficult to convey in audiobook format, nonetheless, this narrator does an excellent job with it. I didn’t feel like it took away from the story at all. The plot was fantastic. If you enjoyed the other books in this series. I would
recommend this one absolutely.

It’s ok. But not great.
Revisado: 06-26-22
The character’s motive and personality seemed clumsy, unbelievable and exaggerated. The reason for this isn’t explained until the very end. But I was so distracted with these facts through the book so it made it hard to enjoy.
