Like a Mini-Series
Revisado: 08-08-07
We listened to this while driving cross country. It was a bit like watching a mini-series. The main plot is on track with several little side plots to enhance the story. The wife and I both enjoyed the story, and wished it would have wrapped up to a bit cleaner of a conclusion. Nonetheless, it was entertaining and a bit "real".

Historia
Switters is a contradiction for all seasons: an anarchist who works for the government, a pacifist who carries a gun, a vegetarian who sops up ham gravy, a cyberwhiz who hates computers, a robust bon vivant who can be as squeamish as any fop, a man who, though obsessed with the preservation of innocence, is aching to deflower his high-school-age stepsister (only to become equally enamored of a nun ten years his senior). Yet there is nothing remotely wishy-washy about Switters. He doesn't merely pack a pistol. He is a pistol.

Up My Alley!
Revisado: 08-08-07
You may love it or hate it. Listen to a sample first, as you may get stunned by the style. I have read the book and listened to this on tape. This is one of the best I've ever experienced; however, I am a little "off center".
Even if you don't think you'll like it, you should give it a try and formulate your own opinion. After all... we all have our own tastes.

Historia
Secret agent Richard Hannay travels across war-torn Europe in search of a German plot and an Islamic messiah. He is joined by three others: John S. Blenkiron, an American who is determined to battle the Kaiser; Peter Pienaar, an old Boer Scout; and the colorful Sandy Arbuthnot, who is modeled on Lawrence of Arabia. Their success or failure could change the outcome of the First World War.

Incredible!
Revisado: 08-08-07
This book had me sucked in. I couldn't stop listening to it. I started it whilst I was doing a few long drives for work, and had to take it out of the car and finish it up at home.
It may take a little time to adjust to the English, if you are not English. I've lived a fair amount of time in England, Canada and Australia, so it was not a problem. The book was published in 1916, so the language mirrors the time.
