Such an immersive mystery!
Revisado: 03-20-25
Although I still have some nagging questions unanswered with the ending of this book, I still enjoyed the entire thing from beginning to end!
I feel like there was never a dull moment, and I loved all the morse code, hidden messages, and mixed-media dialogue that was woven throughout the entire book! It was such an immersive mystery! I annotated the hell out of this book! (I listened to the audio while reading my physical copy) And the narrator was great too!
This was definitely a very unique and original plot, and I just loved everything about it!
This is the first book that I’ve ever considered doing a re-read on!!
So much fun, and I definitely recommend! 💯

Not my vibe
Revisado: 03-10-25
I hate leaving “bad” reviews, but I really didn’t care for this book. I just really didn’t care for the writing style or dialogue. Throughout the entire book, I thought that I was just being overly critical and thought that I was just being picky about the way it was written, but then I got to the author’s note and realized that the author wrote it that way on purpose.
Knowing that he did it on purpose definitely changed things, because at least I knew it wasn’t me imagining things. But with that being said, this writing style was just not my vibe.
And I also did not care for the audio narrator either.
I really only finished the book because it was short, and I knew that I could power through it. But another interesting thing to note, is that the Kindle version of the book is 162 pages long, but the story itself was only 111 pages long. The last 50 pages consisted of the afterword and sneak peaks of the authors other works. Which was just interesting, I’ve never seen that big of a chunk in a book not actually be part of the story itself.
All in all, I feel bad for leaving this review because I am definitely not an educated book critic. All I can do is explain my experience and my overall vibe with this book, and people are welcome to take it or leave it.
I also want to mention that I am not suggesting, nor would I ever suggest that other readers should not read a specific book, or that it’s a waste of time/money or anything of the sort. Just because I didn’t like something doesn’t mean a million other people won’t love it.
So take this review with a grain of salt, it’s just the opinion of one person!🫶🏼

Hella twisty
Revisado: 11-28-24
Even though I technically figured this book out by page 30, The way it came to be is not the way I would have envisioned it at all, and my jaw was on the floor several times throughout this book. There was just twist after twist after twist and it just kept getting better. I thoroughly enjoyed this story, and now I’m craving more by this author!

What a fun book!
Revisado: 01-15-24
This was a great YA horror, mystery, and queer love story all in one! The queer love story was cute, the mystery and plot kept me engaged and on the edge of my seat needing to know what was going to happen, and the gore even hit the spot, too! I really enjoyed the aspect of the Hallowing, and learning about it and how it affected people. Like, we thought Covid was bad, but in comparison to the Hallowing, it wasn’t shit lol… 🤣
Anyway, this book was great, and I had so much fun reading it. The audio wasn’t bad; it wasn’t the best I’ve ever heard, but it also wasn’t the worst, either. It was definitely good enough for me to still enjoy the entire book while I read along with the physical copy at the same time.
I am definitely going to read Kayla Cottingham‘s other book, called “My Dearest Darkest”, and I look forward to anything else she writes in the future!

5 stars HANDS DOWN! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This has become one of my favorite reads of all time! Those plot twists were throwing me for a loop and giving me whiplash in the best way!...I was NOT expecting THAT! Just wow…great story. This is my very first read of 2024, and I honestly don’t know if anything else can top it now lol.
I finished this book in 4 days, which is fast for me because I’m usually a slow reader. But I couldn’t put this book down! I listened to the audio while I read the physical book, and I really enjoyed the audio as well! I think the girl did a fantastic job, and her voice sounded just like I would’ve pictured Mallory to sound.
I’m glad I had the physical book as well though because actually SEEING the illustrations made a huge difference. So I do have to say that if you want to read this book, I would definitely suggest getting the physical book because even though the audio describes the pictures, actually seeing them and experiencing them for yourself really makes all the difference. The audio is still great though!

This was such a great book! 🖤
Revisado: 01-05-24
I loved this book so much! It was the book that wrapped up my 60 book reading goal for 2023, and I finished it literally 2 minutes before the stroke of midnight! I literally went out with a bang because I gave this book 5 stars, hands down! I listened to the audio while reading the physical copy, and the audio was great too, my opinion!
And honestly, I think I needed this book, too. I read so much extreme horror and splatterpunk and violence that I’m pretty sure it has just completely desensitized me lol. And for that exact reason, I usually love my books as brutal as possible in order to get some type of reaction or feelings out of me. But this one was not brutal, at all. It definitely had some creepy parts, but there was also suburban drama, mystery, friendship and lots of humor. It turned out to be a more “wholesome horror” than I thought it was going to be. Again, I normally would have disliked it for these reasons. But… I just really enjoyed the ride with this book from beginning to end. It was FUN, not just bleak and dreary and violent like everything else I read lol
I even teared up a little bit at the end. That NEVER happens to me. Like when I started to tear up, I was in shock at the emotion. I can’t tell you the last time I cried for ANY reason (but that’s probably because of the mood stabilizer I’m on 😝)
Anyways, I think this was just the pallet cleanser that I didn’t know I needed! 🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️ I recommend this book to anyone who is either needing a quick break from all the extreme, or someone who needs a palette cleanser in between switching genres, or really anyone whose looking for a good f*cking time but still wants some creepiness and demonic possession in their plot!
This book will stick with me for a long time! 😊
But PS, when it caught my eye at Barnes & Noble, I looked it up online and saw that it only had a 3.9 rating, and I almost put it back on the shelf because of that reason. But for whatever reason before I left, I just said f*ck it and threw it in the bag. I’m so glad I did! 🥰

Very fun read! ..but unfinished???
Revisado: 09-12-23
Gosh…I really liked this book! I spent the whole book trying to theorize what I thought was going to happen, there were a few things I was right about, and a few things I was wrong about, but even the few things that I had guessed still didn’t quite work out exactly like I thought they would! The twists were very good!
(Not the best narrator in the world, but I was able to tolerate it and still very much enjoy the story despite it not being the best I’ve ever heard.)
I’m a little torn on the ending though because although it chilled me and disturbed me,
(in a good way lol), it only gave me the conclusion to ONE part of the story! The other half of the story line was not finished, or at the very least, was unsatisfactory….which makes me believe that there might be a Part 2 coming at some point since that part of the story was left very unfinished with no closure? So, if a Part 2 does indeed come out, then I absolutely give this book 5 stars! But if that was indeed the end, I HAVE to dock it down a star because although I enjoyed my entire ride throughout this whole book, the ending was not finished. There are still all 3 of the main characters in the book in which we did not get any closure on! Infact, the person(s) which we DID get an ending on were technically side characters. They were not the 3 main voices from which the entire book is narrated by. So yeah, I feel like I can’t say more without spoiling, but yeah, I just definitely have tons of questions I still need answers to!

I’d been prom queen and cheer captain—high school’s most savage Queen Bee. I could have everything I wanted. Except them. The freaks, the weirdos, the school’s ultimate losers: Manson, Jason, Lucas, and Vincent. Our hatred for each other couldn’t keep us apart, not even when my own mistake got Manson expelled and made me the ultimate villain to the rest of them.

Amazing story! But…
Revisado: 08-07-23
Sooo, the way I finished these books has been a rollercoaster for me. I saw this book recommended on TikTok, and it sounded good so I ordered just the prequel novella, The Dare, on Amazon. I’m one of those people who generally prefers to start by only buying the first book in a series to see if I like it first before I get the rest (I have to at least TRY to be financially responsible with book purchases, even though it’s hard sometimes) So yeah I started The Dare on the same day it came in the mail, and I was hoooooked! I fucking devoured it in less than 24 hours and started panicking after the 1st couple chapters knowing damn well I was gonna be stuck waiting a few days for Amazon to ship Losers part 1 to me! So I very quickly regretted the fact that I had wanted to make sure I liked the novella first before purchasing the others! So when part 1 finally came I was so excited and was very much enjoying it (even though the font was a little small for my liking) all the way up to Chapter 22 (which I think was like 35-40% in). Then, life started to get in the way and I was having a hard time carving out a lot of time to read, but then I heard that part 1 was finally available on Audio! It was the perfect solution!!….except this is the part where it goes a little bit downhill for me. I was not thrilled with the narrators from the get-go (Idk if it’s because I had just listened to Haunting/Hunting Adeline, which was done so fucking prestinely) but sometimes after getting used to listening to one narrator, it’s hard to listen to the next. But yeah, I definitely feel like the voices of both the boys and Jess sounded waaay too old. They sounded late 30s-early 40s to me…& these characters were supposed to be about 22-23ish. It just did not fit. Jess was supposed to be this young, stuck up, pretentious sounding valley girl..and the narrator was giving me full-grown businesswoman vibes. Even when the male narrator was doing Jess’s voice during one of the male characters chapters, HE did a way better job of making her sound like a sassy young female with attitude waaaaay better than the chick did!!! I found myself wishing he had done her entire narration throughout the rest of the book. BUT at the same time, I was not super thrilled about how Manson & Lucas’ characters were done either. The male was better at mocking a females voice than he was with putting more effort into making the males sound a little more young & hip (for outcasts, I mean). And so I surprisingly found myself enjoying the story less with listening to the audio. Now, don’t get me wrong, I love literally everything else about this entire story and plot, and every single one of its characters..but the narration wasn’t it for me. I guess I just really enjoyed the story more when I was reading the physical copy and imagining the voice of the characters in my head. And I think that happens to us all from time to time.
BUT sometimes us adults have to actually adult…so even with all that said, I am grateful for being able to listen to the story because it would’ve taken me a lot longer to finish otherwise. And now the audio to part 2 just came out, and I’m fighting with myself about how to proceed with this series. The book is pretty long (to me, anyway) and I know I’ll be able to finish it so much quicker if I listen to the audio…so I’m torn! Uuugh sorry for the long rant, but these are just my personal opinions, & that’s what reviews are for, I guess.

I thoroughly enjoyed the prequel Satan’s Affair, and this duet! However, Hunting Adeline is the only one I listened to on Audio, and it was amaaaaazing! Loved the narration, very well done! I wish I had listened to them all instead of reading the first two! Listening definitely gave me a great experience. So I def suggest listening to them all on audio, if you’re able to, ofcourse! Definitely worth it!
