Historia
At the request of Her Majesty's government, private enquiry agent Cyrus Barker agrees to take on his least favorite kind of assignment - he's to provide security for a secret conference with the French government. But shortly after the parties land at the island, Lord Hargrave is killed by a sniper shot, and the French ambassador's head of security is found stabbed to death. The only means of egress from the island - a boat - has been sent away, and the means of signaling for help has been destroyed.

solid entry in series
Revisado: 04-13-25
Constant character growth, good story line. The final drawing room scenario was a bit overdramatic but in keeping with the tone and Tenor of all the previous stories.

Historia
Ensign Andrew Dahl has just been assigned to the Universal Union Capital Ship Intrepid, flagship of the Universal Union since the year 2456. Life couldn’t be better…until Andrew begins to pick up on the facts that (1) every Away Mission involves some kind of lethal confrontation with alien forces; (2) the ship’s captain, its chief science officer, and the handsome Lieutenant Kerensky always survive these confrontations; and (3) at least one low-ranked crew member is, sadly, always killed.

Much deeper than expected
Revisado: 10-14-24
While you don't have to be a Star Trek afficionado to enjoy this story, you get more out of it when you know more about the show. Having Will Weaton of TNG fame is just another meta reference. And this story is all about meta references. It's deeper than a surface send up of Trek, going into the whole idea of awareness and agency, the why of things and how unexpected interactions can have a wide ranging impact. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Historia
Cameron Winter was born with the ability to recreate detailed crime scenes in his imagination and dissect the motives and encounters that produced them. And after reading a puzzling news story about a wealthy family killed in a small town in the Chicago suburbs, he can't resist the chance to apply this deductive power in the pursuit of justice for the victims. Three members of the family, along with their live-in nanny, were pulled from their burning mansion, already dead from gunshot wounds. The only survivor is a young boy whose memory of the event raises more questions than answers.

In the house and in his head
Revisado: 05-18-24
Klavan's latest is the best so far. The characters are less stereotypical, the relationship between him and nemesis on campus better portrayed and the twists in the story well concealed. Enjoyed this one more than the previous, looking forward to the next.

Strange indeed
Revisado: 05-06-24
Klavan has written a psychological thriller with less than perfect people as characters. More real than many spy/detective fiction, there are some areas where the charactization feels a bit superficial, relying on a shared cultural stereotype rather than a real investigation as to thoughts and motivation.

Interesting premise, too graphic sex scenes.
Revisado: 06-26-23
I purchased due to premise of story, which was interesting enough as an adventure story. Did not expect the multiple graphic sex scenes. Did not feel they added to the story. Eventually it became apparent that the interesting premise was being used to get to the story of naked people grinding together. I will not be continuing this series.

Historia
Monsters and beasts roamed the earth and were slain by soldiers and adventurers who were, in turn, killed by stronger threats. Heroes and villains created new epics and were forgotten when their successors appeared. This was the way of the Infinite World. Summoned into this chaotic place, a young boy with no name and no past must learn to survive. Bound to a master who doesn't care whether he lives or dies, he must become stronger. The question is: how?

Historia
When the biggest colony ship in human history was sent to settle a paradise world, an accident hurtled it deep into uncharted space. A thousand light years from Earth, with no way home and no way to call for help, the colonists’ only hope for survival was the one barely habitable planet in range, a nightmare world they named Croatoan. Landing on the only five mountain peaks tall enough to rise above the lethal acid clouds, the settlers carved a civilization from the rock.

Science Fiction Noir
Revisado: 10-30-21
Very enjoyable tale well performed. Larry Correa takes liberties with an old idea from Larry Niven's "A Gift From Earth'" setting and puts an excellent hard boiled detective story on top of it. There are many loose ends in the story, enough to give you hope for more in this world line. Please, don't stop with this one Mr. Correa.

Historia
This explosive new audiobook challenges many of the long-held assumptions about blacks, about Jews, about Germans and Nazis, about slavery, and about education. Plainly written, powerfully reasoned, and backed with a startling array of documented facts, Black Rednecks and White Liberals takes on the trendy intellectuals of our times as well as historic interpreters of American life.

valuable insights for today
Revisado: 02-20-21
Dr. Sowell provides spot on commentary and insights for today, not from feelings but from facts. The presentation is very accessible, no long winded recitation of numbers or economic theory, and the data is both understandable and outstanding. His thoughts on "middle man minorities" and "intertemporal comparisons" are vital to today's discussions. Also the difference between equity and equality is required to understand today's public discourse.
If you are at all interested in modern economic and political development, and in understanding black history in the United States, this is essential.

Historia
No evildoers have tried to flatten Peter Parker in weeks. His marriage to Mary Jane is stronger than ever, and he's enjoying his job as a high-school science teacher. Life is good. Naturally, that doesn't last. When Peter learns that his old enemy, the Rhino, is on a rampage in Times Square, he suits up as Spider-Man to stop the destructive villain in his tracks. But he's unexpectedly foiled in his attempts by the Black Cat, a former ally and old flame. The Cat informs Peter that the Rhino is just a distraction - the real threat comes from a group of Ancients.

Butcher captures Spider-Man
Revisado: 02-10-21
Jim Butcher, best known for the snarky and wise cracking wizard Harry Dresden takes his turn at the comic book icon, and succeeds in capturing the essence of the character. His portrayal of the now grown and married Peter Parker is a logical extension of the character in the classic comics. Not the high school student we've seen in the MCU nor the Toby Maguire college kid trying to make it, but a young science teacher trying hard to help kids who need it, be a supportive husband to his wife and be a friendly neighborhood Spider-Man. All the wise cracking and fragile self confidence we've loved in the comic is present along with a legitimate confidence born of having "been there, done that" experience. Peter does come across as a bit of the trope of "science vs. magic", and as some one who gained superpowers (!) by being bitten by a radioactive spider not as accepting of things beyond his ken as you would hope, I do think Butcher wrote the character true. I hope he is able to play in this universe with these characters again. I really enjoyed this story.
