I hate finished this book

I started this series because I loved the first season of the Netflix show. However, the second season was a pike of hot garbage, think season 8 of GoT. So I listened to the first book. For the first time in my life, the show was better than the book. Season 1 of altered carbon is great, but the book was missing characters and stories that really helped make the show. When I finished book 1, I listened to this book to see if it's story was different from the show. It is completely different. No similarities. However it had its own problems.

The world the author has created is kinda crap. All the characters are assholes. No one is worth rooting for. I don't care about anyone. The book contains a bit of body horror and it felt like the author only included it so he could feel like his writing was edgy. The author is not particularly great at anything romantic. Characters have sex because...reasons? Like, "it's Tuesday, want a blow job?"

The second book touched on some interesting story concepts but they were poorly explained and thus not as enjoyable as they could have been. At the end of the book there's a big reveal but I just felt like "who cares" by that point.

I can't belive I'm gonna say this but skip the books and just watch the 1st season of the show.

Wright Thompson is the writer you wish you were

Expertly crafted story. Thompson took a subject (whiskey) that frankly I could careless about and turned it into a story about family and self reflection. Few written works have made me feel as deeply as this book.

I was told I didn't have to read dawnshard before continuing the series, but I'm glad I chose otherwise.

kingkiller Chronicles is one of the best out there. expertly written. masterfully performed. I've listened to it twice now and read it twice as well.

if you must read the Vong, read this one

as I work my way through the New Jedi Order this has probably been the second best in the series thus far. It was also nice that this one book was not so abridged as the others. Going through so many abridged books, you can tell you are missing things. This book felt more complete, was well written, had good characters, and was overall enjoyable.

I've been working my way through all the Vong books. when they were first released I mostly skipped them for various reasons. As I've been going through them now, I largely feel like I hadn't missed much. Then I got to this book. All around really good! Cant wait to go through the next one.

know what you're getting into

the performance is good, and the reader does a good Obi-wan.

However, consider the story you're signing up for. You know the main character is stuck in thus one place, won't be leaving, and can't form lasting attachments. This really limits what you can do with the story. And since you know the ultimate destination of the story, it's hard to care much about any of the characters.

the reader was the best I've ever heard in an audio book. His voice helped transport me to this different world.

Rothfuss is a word artist. Fantastic world creation. I have 0 musical talent, but the way he writes makes me feel like I know how to play an instrument.

Mike Duncan has been producing and reading historical work for a decade and it is always quality. This is a great look at a historical period that is important for our own time.
