Lots of trauma, angst and generally depressing content. Don’t expect anything uplifting. Historical content is well done, but I like my history separate from Elizabeth and Darcy.
Very far from cannon. I’d advise against investing the credit.

Sad for pretty much the first two thirds of the story. Elizabeth is noting like cannon. Mrs. B’s voice is extremely irritating. This story may be better as a Kindle read, rather than audio.

I normally love this author, but this story too contrived- even for me. I tend to be fairly forgiving with my JAFF. The recording sounded like a drunk woman produced it in her bathroom and it made a marginal story unbearable. Try one of this author’s other works, read the kindle version.

Depressing

Caroline is a miserable unpleasant person for 98% of the story. It is very difficult to listen to a story in which the main character has no redeeming qualities. The narrator didn’t help. She just made me hate Caroline even more, but maybe that was the point.

Everything that a JAFF audiobook aught to be

Clever, funny and romantic with very little angst. Jane, Anne and Lady Catherine evolve into much more intelligent and likable characters. Caroline gets what she deserves and Bingley is encouraged to become a better man. Miscommunication between ODC is identified early on so that we get lots of time watching their love story evolve. Lovely, extended wrap up feels quite as it should.

Characters behave as one would wish. Georgiana accompanying her most beloved brother to Netherfield Park changes the countenances of all involved and brings a most satisfactory resolution.

Regency romance with characters who happen to have the same names as P &P characters

This P &P “variation” is a very long series of misunderstandings and poor behavior. The characters have a vague resemblance to the Jane Austen characters, but the only thing you will recognize is the character names and locations.
A better description of the story would be this:
A regency romance between a man (whose name happens to be Darcy) and a woman (whose name is Elizabeth - but who’s behavior is more like Austen’s Jane Bennet) marry (for reasons that do not feel authentic). Darcy and his sister Geogiana (who behaves like a modern day Lydia Bennet) are horribly unkind to Elizabeth (who tolerates it). Elizabeth struggles to fit in to her new family and social class while battling loneliness and depression. In the end all is forgiven.

Part 1 is lovely and the narrator does well, but it should have ended there.

Part 2 isn’t true to either Elizabeth or Darcy’s character and paints a fairly disgusting portrayal of both of them.

Gets better as you go

Book 1: Not great. Predictable and full of plot holes.
Book 2: Interesting character development and world building. Best of the three.
Book 3: Nice expansion and wrap up.

The narrator does a great job.

Overall, worth the credit if you are looking to kill some time.
