what an ending

this is a must read for dark romance fans! the love story is so enthralling but there's enough foreshadowing to let you know SOMETHING is coming just not how it will play out. the twist at the end had me gasping and rewinding to make sure I heard it correctly. SO GOOD.

booktok has ruined the series

this series has been SO GOOD but suddenly in the 3rd book the MCs are getting the SJM treatment. I really loved how genuine the love story between Luthor and Diem was in books 1 and 2 but now in book 3 Luthor is overbearing and overlooking Diem's wishes and they're having sex at the most inappropriate times. It's just sad to see another great fantasy series get cheapened because booktok won't make it popular unless the book is smutty. This series really didn't need the smut, it takes away from the story

get to the point

Im really enjoying the story but between the narrator for arlo and the writing I just wish they would get to the point. The narrator for arlo is constantly drawing out words which usually isn't an issue except that the author has written the story with such fluffy, flowery language that it's taking forever to get to the point of the plot. it's hard to stay focused on a story that lingers as much as this one.

When a pick me writes a book

it's a booktok book, so I don't know why I'm surprised that it lacks the literary elements needed to tell a story. Honestly the plot isn't terrible, but the author doesn't understand story telling. H.D. leaves out all of details that would draw someone in and just skips to what will shock the reader, it's boring. It's disrespectful to dark romance as a genre and barely registers as romance at all. The womans POV(Addie) is a barely thought out character who's main thoughts follow along the line of "I'm not like other girls, I'm dIfFeRent" but she's just a regular alternative white girl and the male POV(Zade) could host an alpha bro podcast. Dude thinks he's a gift to women but he doesn't even respect the women he saves from being trafficked. The setting is Seattle and I can imagine the author has only read about Seattle from a tourists perspective because the only description we get is that it's rainy and grey all of time. Big pick me energy coming from this book.

Made for the male gaze

I'm not finishing the story as the plot is completely unbelievable. Both the heroines make me want to pull my hair out. Gwen reads as a big oaf with no mind of her own and blindly goes along with whatever Ava says, giving the whole Princess and her knight dynamic feel very much like a grooming situation.
I'm genuinely surprised to find the author is a queer woman. The spicy scenes read like a pornhub plot and just pop up out of nowhere. I'm not even sure the characters like each other, the chemistry is incredibly forced. There is no conflict. every time it starts to arise it's squashed back down in one or two sentences.
Honestly if you're looking for a good sapphic fantasy this just isn't it. If you want to listen to a good book this just isn't it.

I've read historical romances and enjoy them as easy reads after a heavier story. I picked this up hoping it would blend the 2 and after hearing rave reviews about it. I love Claire but she is at a constant threat of being raped, the new husband beats her aggressively, and there is no plot because she isn't really trying to get home. She rarely even mentions it and mentions Frank, her actual husband, even less. It's a completely unbelievable plot. and the narrator makes her sound like she is 45 but turns out she isn't even 30.

if Hunger Games were written for 10 year olds

it's YA which can be amazing (Hunger Games) but the story has no real detail. book 2 and I still have many questions that I doubt will be answered in book 3. if you're listening with a young child it's probably a good listen but only if your kid likes dogs

this is my second time listening to Throne of Glass and Heir of Fire is easily the best book in the series. the introduction of Manon and Rowan really opens the world up and shows just how many people are affected by the King. 10/10. I just love this series.

I loved the story but I really wish it had been fleshed out more. I would have loved to get to know Benji, Storm, the child queen(not sure the spelling on her name) more and hear more about the automa lore. I really hope Nina writes more queer epic fantasies!

It' so bad I can't finish it.

It's like if Harry Potter started on the 4th book and reads a little like fanfic. The narrator is doing a great job and it's the only thing that kept me going but the story just doesn't make sense. How does a girl abused and enslaved by trolls from 14-20 have this mature sexual knowledge? There just isn't a strong character development for the heroine of the story. It's very flat. The concept is awesome but then again I loved Harry Potter.
