Excellent story!
Revisado: 03-14-24
I am a huge murder she wrote fan. So much so that I go to bed with it every night. I was very hesitant to try this audible book, but was not disappointed. Granted, some of the details about Jessica are not necessarily consistent with the original TV show but the storytelling the characters were spot on. The narrator did an excellent job of characterization of the voices, and I truly will be listening to another one of these soon.

Historia
In present-day California, Eleanor Bennett’s death leaves behind a puzzling inheritance for her two children, Byron and Benny: a black cake, made from a family recipe with a long history, and a voice recording. In her message, Eleanor shares a tumultuous story about a headstrong young swimmer who escapes her island home under suspicion of murder. The heartbreaking tale Eleanor unfolds, the secrets she still holds back, and the mystery of a long-lost child challenge everything the siblings thought they knew about their lineage and themselves.

A must listen/read
Revisado: 01-21-23
I quite by happenstance stumbled on this book while searching for something else and the teaser drew me in. This book did not disappoint. Very well crafted and written story. Lynnette and Simone voices transport you from passive listening into an active participant in the story causing emotions and feelings that make the characters become friends and family members that you are listening to. I’ve very picky about what I use my credits on…trust me this will not disappoint.

Historia
Adichie illuminates a seminal moment in modern African history: Biafra’s impassioned struggle to establish an independent republic in southeastern Nigeria during the late 1960s. We experience this tumultuous decade alongside five unforgettable characters: Ugwu, a 13-year-old houseboy working for Odenigbo, a university professor full of revolutionary zeal; Olanna, the professor’s beautiful young mistress who's abandoned her life in Lagos for a dusty town and her lover’s charm; and Richard, a shy young Englishman infatuated with Olanna’s willful twin sister Kainene.

Absolutely Breathtaking!
Revisado: 06-25-21
This book made me so happy that I actually have a subscription to audible. The writing by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie is phenomenal. There is no comparison implied in this statement but she in the league and level of Toni Morrison in her ability to craft and weave a story full of rich and tangible characters. The narration by Zainab Jah transported me and gave me the feeling I had long since forgotten from childhood when I first learned the power of books to propel you into another world. The personification and acting out of the characters through the solitary use of her voice added such a depth and richness to the story where I felt as though the characters were a part of my life. I actually dreamed about them in a way that I hadn’t dreamed about character from books since I was young. If you are on the fence, get off this is a must have, a must read, a must listen!
