Historia
Richard Evans, author of the acclaimed The Third Reich Trilogy and over two dozen other volumes on modern Europe, is our preeminent scholar of Nazi Germany. Having spent half a century searching for the truths behind one of the most horrifying episodes in human history, in Hitler’s People, he brings us back to the original site of the Nazi movement: namely, the lives of its most important members. Working in concentric circles out from Hitler and his closest allies, Evans forms a typological framework of Germany society under Nazi rule from the top down.

an excellent addition to his previous trilogy on Third Reich Germany. the only thing lacking in the previous works, the coming of the Third Reich, the Third Reich and Power, and the Third Reich at War, was a biographical study of leading Nazis. this book rectifies that and then some.

Historia
Abraham Lincoln grappled with the greatest crisis of democracy that has ever confronted the United States. While many books have been written about his temperament, judgment, and steady hand in guiding the country through the Civil War, we know less about Lincoln’s penetrating ideas and beliefs about democracy, which were every bit as important as his character in sustaining him through the crisis. Allen C. Guelzo, one of America’s foremost experts on Lincoln, captures the president’s firmly held belief that democracy was the greatest political achievement in human history.

Historia
Thousands of miles from friendly ports, the US Navy had finally managed to complete the capture of Guadalcanal from the Japanese in early 1943. Now the Allies sought to keep the offensive momentum won at such a high cost. This is the central plotline running through this page-turning history beginning with the Japanese Operation I-Go and the American ambush of Admiral Yamamoto and continuing on to the Allied invasion of New Georgia, northwest of Guadalcanal in the middle of the Solomon Islands and the location of a major Japanese base.

Historia
Perhaps it wasn't from our time, perhaps it wasn't even from our universe, but the arrival of the 300-kilometer long stone was the answer to humanity's desperate plea to end the threat of nuclear war. Inside the deep recesses of the stone lies Thistledown: the remnants of a human society, versed in English, Russian and Chinese. The artifacts of this familiar people foretell a great Death caused by the ravages of war, but the government and scientists are unable to decide how to use this knowledge.

Excellent preformace of a well aging classic
Revisado: 08-07-18
I read this book around 1989 or so. I remembered loving it but little else. I am very glad I decided to revisit it. The story stands the test of time. Despite featuring the U.S.S.R. as a major plot mover and the cold war as the main plot backdrop, the story does not feel dated or stale. Greg Bear is hit and miss with me, I am not a fan of "Darwin's Radio" but enjoyed "Queen of Mars". That said I can't imagine how Eon did not win the Hugo Award...unless of course it came out the same year as "Ender's Game".
