Historia
When Olivia Shaw’s mother dies, the sophisticated food editor is astonished to learn she’s inherited a centuries-old English estate—and a title to go with it. Raw with grief and reeling from the knowledge that her reserved mother hid something so momentous, Olivia leaves San Francisco and crosses the pond to unravel the mystery of a lifetime. One glance at the breathtaking Rosemere Priory and Olivia understands why the manor, magnificent even in disrepair, was the subject of her mother’s exquisite paintings. What she doesn’t understand is why her mother never mentioned it.

Disappointed
Revisado: 02-25-20
I kept waiting for the story to begin with this book. When was Lisa Jewell's great story building and weaving going to begin? Alas, it never did. I ended up wondering what the point of the book was. I'm always excited when a new Lisa Jewel book comes out, but this was a big disappointment.

Historia
At the end of the Second World War, Cyril Conroy combines luck and a single canny investment to begin an enormous real estate empire, propelling his family from poverty to enormous wealth. His first order of business is to buy the Dutch House, a lavish estate in the suburbs outside of Philadelphia. Meant as a surprise for his wife, the house sets in motion the undoing of everyone he loves. The story is told by Cyril’s son Danny, as he and his older sister, the brilliantly acerbic and self-assured Maeve, are exiled from the house where they grew up by their stepmother.

I Really Didn't Want It To End
Revisado: 10-22-19
I loved the story, and Tom Hanks did an amazing job narrating. I was concerned that I would constantly just hear "Tom Hanks" and not the story because his voice is so recognizable. But he did such a masterful job that I only heard the voice of the character Danny. I was also worried that I would enjoy the book only because of Tom Hanks, but I was wrong again. I was torn between not wanting to get out of my car so I could listen to more, and rationing it so it would last longer.

Former Broadway dancer and current agoraphobic Billy Shine has not set foot outside his apartment in almost a decade. He has glimpsed his neighbors--beautiful manicurist Rayleen, lonely old Ms. Hinman, bigoted and angry Mr. Lafferty, kind-hearted Felipe, and nine-year-old Grace and her former addict mother, Eileen. But most of them have never seen Billy. Not until Grace begins to sit outside on the building's front stoop for hours every day, inches from Billy's patio.

While it wasn't an edge-of-your-seat kind of book, it was pleasantly engaging and you could envision the characters. Ended happily enough with everything tied up neatly. #addiction #agoraphobia #prejudice #BeingAGoodNeighbor #predictable #tagsgiving #sweepstakes

Loved It Right Away
Revisado: 11-13-18
Kind of a coming-of-age story for a family. Loved how the writer turned a phrase and was able to really make you think by just using 3 or 4 words. The narrator was perfect for this book. Best book I've read or listened to in a long while #MadeYouThink #FamilyDynamics #Complex #WhatWouldYouDo? #JustGetIt! #Tagsgiving #Sweepstakes

I was hooked by the first sentence!
Revisado: 09-14-18
I usually avoid audio books narrated by the author. Authors can't necessarily narrate. But Catherine Steadman was amazing. She is a real storyteller. I was immediately drawn into the story and was sorry when the book was over. I wanted more of her story and her narration!

Historia
Inheriting her grandparents' island estate on Florida's Gulf coast is a special kind of homecoming for thirty-one-year-old Charity Baxter. Raised by a narcissistic single mother, Charity's only sense of a loving home comes from childhood summers spent with Gramps and Grandma. But piercing her fondest memories is her sharpest grief - the death of her beloved grandmother, when Charity stopped believing in the magical healing power of the weeping willow that still casts a shadow on their property.

Trite and predictable
Revisado: 03-13-18
I wanted to like this book but my mind kept drifting every time I listened to it. That’s telling. The writing seemed forced at times, and the characters’ emotions were often inconsistent with how you’d expected them to act. Couldn’t finish it.

Lazy writing! The only adjective the main character knew was “lovely.” It was choppy and lacked any description.
