Historia
They sent me into the blasted lands to die. I refused. I lived. And now...I return to the empire that discarded me. A god, rich with worship. I don't know what has become of Hasra, or the war with the Fomori. I don't know where Li is, or if her homeland is still dealing with the wyrm Khonsu. My sister and mother were freed—the reward for my blood price— but I have no idea what has become of them. It is time to go home. Time to right old wrongs, and to find the legacy left behind by my former incarnation. Three tombs remain. Once I am certain my family is safe I will seek them.

Loved it. Loved it all. Outside the deathless series Chris Fox has made masterworks. Epic characters, excellent world building. Hanging on every word. Love is the only thing to compare.

Historia
I am the reincarnation of a dark god. I cannot escape that now. The prince of demons come again. And I am hunted. The Fomori have a prophecy about my return, and have been so kind as to dispatch the Morrigan herself to slay me. She's even forging a special divine sword. Their armies of beastmen and giants march upon Hasra, and the ailing empire is in no shape to hold. They need new troops. They need us. My friends and I are being sent off to the other Catalysts we control to gain more magic so that we can resist the Fomori advance.

As a fan of the lore and a player of the tabletop game, I am most pleased by this audiobook, it’s presentation, It’s story is all top notch, and in a world of subpar representations of source materials I am pleasantly surprised at the artistry of this tail.

Do not buy this, I will attempt to return it. Myself Ford isn’t worth a credit that I spent on it. Written like a crappy, teen, romance, novel, and making Kyle out to be a naïve lovesick fool. This is just a garbage story.

SJW werewolves and tree hugging zombies
- De Zim en 02-07-20
Love Chris Fox. If you do too, avoid this series.
Revisado: 10-15-22
First I want to say I’m just about at the end of the Werewolf part of the deathless series. I’m hopeful that some of the nonsense that has poisoned this story is remedied as the tale develops.
I discovered Chris Fox first with the Magitech chronicles, those are a breathtaking work of pure art. If you haven’t picked it up yet I suggest you show yourself some self love and do so. Then I drowned my sorrow of its ending with the Void Wraith saga. Absolutely glorious, I am a Tigris at heart and KAR is my BOY, and I would cut off my left arm and present it to Fizgig to be a student of hers… anyway…
Glorious.
So imagine my excitement when I discovered we could find out the fate of our world and our civilization within this universe. After reading some of the reviews I was concerned with the political injections that various other listeners had picked up.
I am sad to report that it never goes away, just reinforces itself multiple times through the tale, the SJW stench is very strong, and it grows more pungent as the series goes on. Be wary, the virtue signaling and humanity shaming gets jabbed into your eye. Blair alone made me wish for our own extinction, but more specifically I want to put his head through a wall several times. Especially with his Yoda cracks, no one disses Yoda. Blair is definitely one of those “smart” Dumb people. Should be intelligent, but lacks the character of Aran or Nolan. To be fair I can see the seeds of them in him, but he’s their underdeveloped cousin who gets left out of party invites.
The preachy werewolves got old, the evil corporation trope got old, soldiers bad and “smart” dumb people good, got old. I have heard whispers that the zombies are tree huggers, (update, they are) come… on… can we stop with this human self hatred, no wonder our people are depressed and anxious, everyone keeps telling us we’re a plague on the world. As a Buddhist I get really tired of that message, there is such a beauty to humanity if people would stop shoving their faces in the toilet.
I hope something pops up that can smack some good old sense into these characters but I’m not holding my breath. (Update: Nothing has smacked them yet) Am I going to listen to every minute of Deathless?
Yes, yes I am. (Why did I do this to myself….)
Why? Because even though the zombie apocalypse is upon them, even though SJW werewolves are righteously preaching, I have hope. I still have hope. (Update: hopes gone, no more hope)
I will update this review as I move through the rest of the Deathless series.
I honestly don’t usually take the time to review audio books, I burn through them due to my work being on the road a lot, but I suppose I’m just a little disappointed. It’s like coming to enjoy an artists great work so much so that they quickly climb to your near favorite, and then in a moment of joy finding their old sketch book only to discover its filled with rudimentary phallic diagrams. I can’t be too mad, after Relic Hunter my love runs so deep for Chris Fox that I have plenty of room at the dinner table for this unfortunate tale. (I withdraw that comment, this series is now banished from all gatherings)
(Update) I am now at the end of the 3rd book within this series.
I am sad to report that the characters one dimensional existence is not remedied. The blatant sexism of Isis is a constant, so… this ancient goddess, who actually screwed up the entire world with her viruses, looks at men as little more then barely competent thralls, while she has nothing but warmth for the females. The only two characters that seem to have anything resembling common sense is Jordan and Trevor, and even then it is very 2 dimensional. Blair is still a complete idiot, and if he’s the best we have as a species then I don’t blame Isis for thinking men are stupid.
I can’t put into words effectively how utterly disappointed I am in this story.
The only reason I continue is that I wish to know the history of humanity in relation to the Void Wraith and Magitech chronicles. Humans in this are less then cattle, to weak to survive anything coming out of the arks, to stupid to react in any meaningful way, plus through it all these self righteous old gods just love telling us how useless humanity is, and how damaging to the world it is, and how much better they’re philosophy is... of how they are doing the world a favor by slaughtering 97% of the worlds population. All of humanity is nothing but raw material for better creatures to eat on and possibly pass on the virus to. It would have been better if we had, in fact, nuked the world back to an Ice Age. At least then we would have flipped off both these pompous old Gods, and the Builders who seem to be just a different flavor of ass. There has been absolutely nothing redeeming about base line humans, their only roll in this story is to die. Or be food. How the hell did we survive this long enough to build enough of a tech base to get into the Void Wraith novels….
And For those who would listen to this just to know what the heck’s going on in relation to the other series, I got you, at the end I’ll highlight the important facts from this in relation to the other series that actually were well put together, the things I couldn’t find online and thus started me on this journey of self conflagration… so that you may be spared a similar fate.
I do this for you, my people, let not my sacrifice go to waste.

A mockery of Star Wars and the Jedi
Revisado: 01-18-22
I came to the high Republic with high hopes, unfortunately all I found in the end was a disappointment. I would have given it a single star if not for the narrator who once again has carried through with presenting a wonderful series of different voices and characters, this made the story survivable to get through. The first several books, though I was dubious, managed to portray a world that, at least, kept my interest, that ended with this one. I think my own journey through the high Republic has ended. My biggest complaint about this story was how emotional all of the Jedi were, it's like the author didn't know anything about the Jedi or their philosophy and was just winging it with "Light" this and "Life" that. I couldn't get through a chapter without somebody wallowing in their feelings, which flies in the face if the true Jedi Path. The whole philosophy of not developing attachment in order to maintain a calm inner self was completely ditched by the author in this story. the only way I managed to finish this was by Marc Thompson's amazing portrayal of characters and events. Other then that I found the bad guys cartoonish, the good guys incompetent and weepy, and the story bland. Save your money for when the unabridged Legend novels are released.
