The performance
Revisado: 01-13-25
It is a good book , however almost every interaction went the same with a very redundant pattern - ex - Its him / who / the man / what man / that man / which man do u mean / the man from before / which man from before / etc etc etc

Journalist Susan Casey was in her living room when she first glimpsed this strange place and its resident sharks, their dark fins swirling around a tiny boat in a documentary. These great whites were the alphas among alphas, the narrator said, some of them topping 18 feet in length, and each fall they congregated here off the northern California coast.

As someone who lives not far from Bodega head the subject matter it was easy for me to be interested thru the whole book. The author is fun and talented and probably a bit of a trouble maker - which is great for telling stories. Its a great listen with a clean production.

Its nice to not have to have all the elaborate traumas in half the character that some authors feel they need. The story even recaps events and clues clearly so can even multi task when listening to this one.

I listened twice and the second time i regularly referenced a detailed animated birds eye view map of the Alps. It really made a difference in my ability to visualize the entire trip. Great reader - and kinda funny to hear an Alps book by someone “afraid of heights”

Every character is disfunctional
Revisado: 07-18-17
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
simple minded mystery readers
What was most disappointing about Samuel Bjork’s story?
Every character was a wreck with no arc , just more of the same sad, abused, over worked, or self shamed noise throughout the whole story.
What do you think the narrator could have done better?
The narration was performed well.
What character would you cut from I'm Traveling Alone?
Just add a couple confident ones.
Any additional comments?
There is a pattern thru the entire book of each character drawing the most absurd assumptions when first presented with a situation. Warning SPOILER, for ex. when the known next target of the villain (of course without Police protection) doesn't answer their phone, the assumption is , "O silly girl won't pick up" - the listener has to suffer through countless hapless assumptions like this. And then the story returns to its pity party , and the party isn't for the victims, but rather the "heroes."

From one of Outside magazine's "Literary All-Stars" comes the thrilling true tale of the fastest boat ride ever, down the entire length of the Colorado River and through the Grand Canyon, during the legendary flood of 1983. In the spring of 1983, massive flooding along the length of the Colorado River confronted a team of engineers at the Glen Canyon Dam with an unprecedented emergency that may have resulted in the most catastrophic dam failure in history.

What did you love best about The Emerald Mile?
I liked the books structure, the authors presentation of more than one perspective, and most of all you got a sense of how much he loved this project and how much the characters love that canyon.
