Historia
World War I altered the landscape of the modern world in every conceivable arena. Millions died; empires collapsed; new ideologies and political movements arose; poison gas, warplanes, tanks, submarines, and other technologies appeared. "Total war" emerged as a grim, mature reality. In The Great War, Peter Hart provides a masterful combat history of this global conflict.

Thorough account of the Great War; less than Great narration.

A great read, but a less enjoyable listen. The halting/clipped cadence of the narrator is tremendously distracting. It''s possibly the result of over-editing, but worth noting for anyone who is particular about this kind of thing.

Historia
In 1803, President Thomas Jefferson selected his personal secretary, Captain Meriwether Lewis, to lead a voyage up the Missouri River, across the forbidding Rockies, and - by way of the Snake and the Columbia rivers - down to the Pacific Ocean. Lewis and his partner, Captain William Clark, endured incredible hardships and witnessed astounding sights. With great perseverance, they worked their way into an unexplored West. When they returned two years later, they had long since been given up for dead.

narration not good
Revisado: 08-04-22
it's a compelling story from a controversial historian prone to unsubstantiated absolutes, but there a lot to learn and a lot to like here.
the narrator, however, is not among the enjoyable aspects of this audio book. it's like having an insurance claims phone tree voice teaching your western civilization 201 course. oofta.
