Historia
Moonglow unfolds as the deathbed confession, made to his grandson, of a man the narrator refers to only as "my grandfather". It is a tale of madness, of war and adventure, of sex and desire and ordinary love, of existential doubt and model rocketry, of the shining aspirations and demonic underpinnings of American technological accomplishment at midcentury, and, above all, of the destructive impact - and the creative power - of the keeping of secrets and the telling of lies.

Bombastic in Story and Style
Revisado: 01-02-17
Michael Chabons prose is always overblown in a 120% style as if he crams everything he ever learned into every paragraph with an almost *wink* see what I did there on every page. This time he pairs it with an equally over the top narrative and somehow the result is magical. This story reaches all the highs and the lows and will have you laughing and crying within minutes of each other. A masterwork.
This story is distinctly Jewish. Audible, it is inexcusable that a narrator be unable to correctly pronounce so many of the Hebrew/Yiddish words in this story. Such a shame.

Historia
Bellow evokes all the rich colour and exotic customs of a highly imaginary Africa in this comic novel about a middle-aged American millionaire who, seeking a new, more rewarding life, descends upon an African tribe. Henderson's awesome feats of strength and his unbridled passion for life earns him the admiration of the tribe - but it is his gift for making rain that turns him from mere hero into messiah.

Enraging
Revisado: 04-24-15
I don't know how to read this book. It's comic. it's farcical. It's racist. It's absurd. It horrified me the whole way through in that repulsive, I can't look away, sort of way. Nothing resolves this book of its racism, of its colonial distain, while at the same time it forces you to confront this racism and oppose it. Great. Terrible. Disgusting

Historia
Set in the days of the British Raj, Kipling's finest novel is the exciting and touching tale of an Irish orphan-boy who has lived free in the streets of Lahore before setting out, with a Tibetan Lama, on a spiritual quest. Kim later enrols in the Indian Service and simultaneously embarks on an espionage mission of supreme importance.

Too clever for its own good
Revisado: 04-11-15
This poem/novel/tirade (?!) is that teacher's pet we all knew who was always shouting out all the answers and was always a bit off and totally oblivious to how we all felt about them.

Sensationalized Neuroscience
Revisado: 04-03-15
As an MD the first few chapters dragged as she built up some basic concepts for a lay audience. Boring, but a necessary evil I suppose. What grated on me the most however was her use of clinical vignettes that were at best sensationalism and often bordered on irresponsible exasperation

This was a "landed" story that serves only to link more entertains maritime stories so sadly was not nearly as exciting as usual. I normal love Vance's narration it sadly I must confess I don't like his performance on these stories

Historia
Her name was Henrietta Lacks, but scientists know her as HeLa. She was a poor Southern tobacco farmer who worked the same land as her slave ancestors, yet her cells - taken without her knowledge - became one of the most important tools in medicine: The first “immortal” human cells grown in culture, which are still alive today, though she has been dead for more than 60 years. HeLa cells were vital for developing the polio vaccine; uncovered secrets of cancer, viruses, and the atom bomb’s effects.

Conflicting
Revisado: 02-26-15
As physician who has done both HeLa and other human research and has tried to explain complicated consent forms to families this story hit home on many level. I also found the authors portrayal of the family off-putting and irritating. It has left me conflicted.

Historia
English anthropologist Andrew Bankson has been alone in the field for several years, studying the Kiona river tribe in the territory of New Guinea. Haunted by the memory of his brothers' deaths and increasingly frustrated and isolated by his research, Bankson is on the verge of suicide when a chance encounter with colleagues, the controversial Nell Stone and her wry and mercurial Australian husband, Fen, pulls him back from the brink. Nell and Fen have just fled the bloodthirsty Mumbanyo and, in spite of Nell's poor health, are hungry for a new discovery.

With accomplished precision and gentle eloquence, Jhumpa Lahiri traces the crosscurrents set in motion when immigrants, expatriates, and their children arrive, quite literally, at a cultural divide. The nine stories in this stunning debut collection unerringly chart the emotional journeys of characters seeking love beyond the barriers of nations and generations.

Unremastered audio

This performance has not been remastered for Audible and retains the awkward cuts from the end of the disks it was recorded too. This is completely subpar and I will be returning what otherwise would have been an otherwise masterful collection.

Would you try another book from Glen Cook and/or Marc Vietor?
This book came highly recommended on io9, but it was a disappointment. The book tries to shoe a modern approach to warfare into fantasy and it just doesnt work.
