Historia
This book is not a 10-step plan to survive the zombie apocalypse, or a survival guide for natural disasters. It is a discussion on human psychology and physiology, and the threats posed by starvation psychosis during a prolonged, total collapse scenario.

Historia
The Quarrel of Sword and Bone was a death sentence for anyone who stepped into the arena with the deranged Queen, whose soul had crisped to frost in an age long since past. Sixteen-year-old Helen Bell understood tragedy better than most kids growing up—she knew what it was like to wear clothes from donation bins and be mocked by the beautiful girls in school. She thought these brutal experiences made her ready for anything.

Thoroughly Meh

I was recommended this series because I liked Harry Potter and am forever on a hunt for literature which is captivating in the way it’s written and has a compelling, dynamic plot which keeps my interest. It may have been because my expectations were high, but I think this fell far short of the league of Harry Potter. The characters are built out as much as any YA book would be and the plot made sense but the language of the world fell flat for me. I’ll be stopping the series after this book and continue my pursuit of a similar read to HP.

Historia
Everyone from Wakarusa, Indiana, remembers the infamous case of January Jacobs, who was discovered in a ditch hours after her family awoke to find her gone. Margot Davies was six at the time, the same age as January—and they were next-door neighbors. In the twenty years since, Margot has grown up, moved away, and become a big-city journalist. But she’s always been haunted by the feeling that it could’ve been her. And the worst part is, January’s killer has never been brought to justice.

I feel like my main problem with the storyline is the characters are not complex enough for me to believe their behaviors, and the things that they said. I don’t think that it helped that the person narrating this book felt overly bratty and almost like ASMR. I actively dislike this book until the last two hours of listening through it, and still did not feel, even through the end, that the way that this plot unfolded was as likely as they often made it out to be. Sort of “Hallmark like” and now things just seem to work out or people seem to confess certain things. I wouldn’t read it again, but it killed some time.

Beck is everything Joe has ever wanted: she's gorgeous, tough, razor-smart, and sexy beyond his wildest dreams. Joe needs to have her, and he'll stop at nothing to do so. As he begins to insinuate himself into her life - her friendships, her email, her phone - she can’t resist her feelings for a guy who seems custom-made for her. So when her boyfriend, Benji, mysteriously disappears, Beck and Joe fall into a tumultuous affair. But there's more to Beck than her oh-so-perfect façade.

Captivating

Aside from the incredible reading of this book the writing was incredible. The character portrayal is as complex as it is realistic and I could not put it down. Will definitely be reading everything this author has to offer.

Incredibly informative, from a true expert on the subject. This book should be required reading in high schools across the U.S., as well as our allies.
