The Death Korps of Krieg are deployed to a soul-crushing siege in the Octarius War Zone. They’re the right regiment for the job, though victory might come at a price that some might balk to pay.

Even if you know the lore this is worth it
Revisado: 11-20-24
I know the lore behind Krieg but since they’re my fav humans in 40k, I thought this would be good even knowing how and why they are what they are. I was right. Great characters and the narrator is excellent. Completely immersed me in the story and a good balance of combat and character.

So-so narrator and story dragged a bit
Revisado: 10-01-24
I really like Corax and the ravenguard and the first half of this book was excellent. Have a lot of insight into the Emperor and Corax you don’t get much of. However, the last half dragged on and I wish there would’ve been a lot more about the genetics. It seemed like that wasn’t given the attention it should’ve been for such a monumental source of the emperors schemes.

Great Mechanicum story and great narrator
Revisado: 09-29-24
One of the best 40k narrators manages to handle a ton of characters. This one kept me up listening way longer than I needed to be. Definitely listen to this one if you want some great lore and characters on Mars.

Amazing Series
Revisado: 09-23-24
The narrator is excellent and really helped bring this story to life. A challenge given the number of POV characters (it’s a lot.) I’ve only gotten interested in the 40k universe in the last year or so and have never been able to play the tabletop game.
However, as a lifelong sci-fi fan I’m happy that there is so much more to 40k. This series andThe Vaults of Terra books are great even if you’re not steeped in the 40k universe. It certainly helps to know about the background and history of factions but these can be understood and enjoyed even if you don’t.

I’m really enjoying this series. I bought the 3rd book before even finishing this one. The characters get more depth and some questions are answered while also resolving some mysteries. I recommend this to anyone who enjoys sci-fi, even if you aren’t familiar with WH40k.

New to 40k books, this was a great start
Revisado: 09-01-24
I’ve read a ton of lore on the primarchs and space marines but I really wanted to find stories less involved with them. I have read hundreds of sci-fi books and being newer to 40k, was worried the writing would be a bit over the top. I was wrong. This book was a great mystery mixed with some sci-fi but more importantly was the exact thing I was looking for.

Now, a small team must land and journey on foot across the surface to learn who built the hole and why. But they all carry the burdens of lives carved out on disparate colonies in the cruel cold of space. For some the mission is the dream of the lifetime, for others a risk not worth taking, and for one it is a desperate attempt to find meaning in an uncaring universe.

I’m unfortunately revising my review
Revisado: 05-17-23
I wanted to love this. I really did. TSIASOS is such an engrossing story and I have been counting the months for this to come out so I could dive back into that world. When I realized it has almost nothing to do with TSIASOF I was bummed but gave it a shot on its own merits. Now that I’ve had a day to digest, I just can’t figure out what the point of this book was or who it’s for.
There is no resolution or discovery, there is nothing but endless misery and anger and even that seems very out of place and unexplained. I couldn’t connect or empathize with any of the characters and none of their actions made much sense. In other words, this is the opposite of what TSIASOS is and in all the worst ways. It’s being labeled a “prequel” but it actually feels like the overdone short story it originally was written as. I suppose it’s somewhat in the universe of TSIASOS but not really. At Jennifer Hale is back to lend her amazing talking to this otherwise lifeless story.
I hate to leave reviews like this because I don’t assume my opinion is correct. But I am so disappointed and it doesn’t even sound like we’ll get the follow-up we are all dying for anytime in the near future. If you’re a fan and wanting more of Kira’s world, this will only leave you disappointed. If you want an ok sci-fi pick, this is fine. I guess.
