Historia
Death. It happens to everyone, yet most of us don't want to talk about this final chapter of existence. Sixth-generation funeral director Caleb Wilde intimately understands this reticence and fear. The son of an undertaker, he hesitated to embrace the legacy of running his family's business. Yet he discovered that caring for the deceased and their loved ones profoundly changed his faith and his perspective on death - and life itself.

More Philosophy Than Funeral Home Insights
Revisado: 03-10-25
I expected a book focused on the author’s experiences as a funeral director—how he interacted with grieving families and handled the challenges of the profession. Instead, it felt more like a platform for his personal philosophy, with only a few anecdotes from his work. I found it disappointing and wouldn’t recommend it.

I order another bourbon, neat. This is the drink that will flip the switch. I don’t even know how I got here, to this place, to this point. Something is happening to me lately. I’m drinking too much. My sheets are soaking wet when I wake up from nightmares of decaying corpses. I order another drink and swig it, trying to forget about the latest case I can’t shake. Crime solving for me is more complex than the challenge of the hunt, or the process of piecing together a scientific puzzle. The thought of good people suffering drives me to the point of obsession.

Engaging but Disjointed
Revisado: 02-28-25
The stories are engaging, and the narration is enjoyable. I prefer when authors narrate their work because they have the best understanding of how to deliver the story. However, the author spends quite a bit of time discussing his marital problems and personal life, which can get a bit tiresome. The narrative also jumps around a lot—one moment, we're reading about east-side criminals, then abruptly shifting to a father/son tragedy, and finally diving into marital issues. Overall, it's a good read, but the pacing and personal digressions can be a bit frustrating at times.

Entertaining
Revisado: 02-15-25
Zig Ziglar is an awesome story teller. I listen to this just for the stories and his superbly entertaining delivery.
The content is typical boomer advice though, and most likely will not work in today's corporate world.

Subpar performance
Revisado: 04-10-23
I don't understand how this has so many 5 -star reviews. Besides missing content, Frye uses the exact same voice-pitch, tone, inflection while reading dialogues uttered by *any* character. So much so, that the characters tend to blend into each other.
Not recommended.

Historia
"What should we have for dinner?" To one degree or another, this simple question assails any creature faced with a wide choice of things to eat. Anthropologists call it the omnivore's dilemma. Choosing from among the countless potential foods nature offers, humans have had to learn what is safe, and what isn't. Today, as America confronts what can only be described as a national eating disorder, the omnivore's dilemma has returned with an atavistic vengeance.

What made the experience of listening to The Omnivore's Dilemma the most enjoyable?
The narrator, Scott Brick puts the right emphasis and pauses to make sentences alive!
What was the most compelling aspect of this narrative?
I have no idea but I keep going back to this over my other audio books.
Which character – as performed by Scott Brick – was your favorite?
No character since it is a non-fiction.
What’s the most interesting tidbit you’ve picked up from this book?
Why every animal in North America is fed corn and the devastating consequences.
Any additional comments?
Scott Brick is fast becoming my my most favorite narrator, dethroning George Guidall.
