Historia
There are some men in the pages of history, whose greatness no person of common sense thinks of disputing. They tower above the herd of mankind, like the Pyramids, the Parthenon, and the Colosseum, among buildings. Such men were Luther and Augustine, Gustavus Adolphus and George Washington, Columbus and Sir Isaac Newton. He who questions greatness must be content to be thought very ignorant, very prejudiced, or very eccentric. Public opinion has come to a conclusion about them - they were great men.

Nice Work on Whitefield
Revisado: 03-29-24
The narrator was perfect in his tone and execution of an 18th century work. Although short, it was very informative.

Wonderful Overview of 12 Godly Women
Revisado: 02-07-22
This audiobook gives insight into the lives of 12 women portrayed in scripture (5 Old Testament and 7 New Testament). The author is thorough in his research and gives much background information along with their virtues and attributes.
I learned a lot and found it easy to listen to the narrator (who narrates many of the author’s books). I highly recommend it!

Does the Bible feel confusing and complicated to you? Perhaps some of it feels familiar, but overall, does it feel impossible to navigate? Maybe you recognize the stories, but you just don’t know how they all fit together. Yet they do fit together. In her unique and remarkably listenable way, Angie Smith - best-selling author of What Women Fear, Mended, I Will Carry You, and Seamless - helps you tie together all the loose, disconnected threads you find in the Bible, weaving them into a beautifully crafted storyline.

High-Level Overview of Bible from Beginning-End
Revisado: 01-27-22
The book is a helpful overview of the Bible from the beginning to end. The author provides a big picture and organizes information in a way that makes understanding easy. For example, she says that all the laws mentioned in Leviticus are just a fuller version of the Ten Commandments. The book of Numbers was written during the time when the Israelites were wandering in the wilderness. Deuteronomy includes the lasts five speeches of Moses. All these one sentence summaries are perfect for quickly understanding the purpose of each book.
She also organizes the major and minor prophets by where they prophesized (either the Northern Kingdom- Israel, or the Southern Kingdom- Judah), and divides them into different waves. The first wave is before the Northern Kingdom's invasion by the Assyrians. The second wave is before the Babylonian's invasion of the Southern Kingdom. The third wave is during exile. All this is a very helpful way to organize and remember the different prophets.
The last three chapters focus on the New Testament. She goes through the different gospels, disciples, along with Jesus' life, death, and resurrection. She also covers the epistles and Revelation.
Its an amazingly quick overview and perfect for those who are new to reading their Bible or feel intimidated and want to get a high-level overview first.
Angie Smith narrates her own book, and she is so funny! She really makes it come to life. I highly recommend listening to her. She does go off-script sometimes, so listening and reading the book at the same time doesn't always go together, but easily doable. She clearly loves Jesus and it shows in every chapter. She continuingly hints of Jesus throughout the Old Testament chapters. Very enjoyable audiobook!

Captivating Documentaries on the Twelve Apostles
Revisado: 01-27-22
I listened via Audible while reading a hard copy of the book. The author did his research and carefully put together information on each of the twelve original disciples. Pulling from scripture, he gave profiles on their backgrounds, personalities, temperaments, strengths, weaknesses, and leadership/evangelical styles. He also researched how they transformed and where they ministered after Jesus' death/resurrection, along with how each of them died.
After reading/listening to this book, I'm so much more familiar with those whom Jesus chose to be his disciples. I learned a lot and came to appreciate how these ordinary men with no education/formal training were taught by Jesus and empowered by the Holy Spirit. The book is very insightful, interesting, easy to read/listen to, and it held my attention.
The chapter on Judas Iscariot was the most perceptive. There's a lot of insightful information on many aspects, including the tension between the sovereignty of God and the choices/responsibilities of men (which is explained really well in the book). It's amazing that Jesus chose Judas, knowing that he would betray him, and yet Jesus still treated Judas with the same unconditional love that he showed to the other disciples.
I highly recommend listening/reading. The narrator was easy to listen to and did a great job.

Here is a tale straight from the fireside. We are compelled to follow the humble and mysterious figure of the linen weaver Silas Marner, on his journey from solitude and exile to the warmth and joy of family life. His path is a strange one; when he loses his hoard of hard-earned coins all seems to be lost, but in place of the golden guineas come the golden curls of a child - and from desolate misery comes triumphant joy.

Nice Translation , Easy to Understand
Revisado: 08-22-17
This translation is easier to understand than others. I didn't give it 5 stars because it was abridged. Some important chunks of text were not read.
The narrator was good, except he mis-read minor words from the text ("bring" instead of "take", "then" instead of "next"). No big deal though.
