Historia
From the Japanese soldiers' carefully calculated - and ultimately foiled - attempt to build a series of impregnable island forts on the ground to the tireless efforts of the Americans who struggled against a tenacious adversary and the temperature and terrain of the island itself, Robert Leckie captures the loneliness, the agony, and the heat of 24-hour-a-day fighting on Guadalcanal.

The narrator's god-awful Japanese accent.
Revisado: 12-16-24
The source material is fantastic, as is the author, but the narrators Japanese accent is atrocious. it sounds like he was attempting to imitate the mice in the children's movie and American tail

Historia
The men onboard HMS Terror have every expectation of finding the Northwest Passage. When the expedition's leader, Sir John Franklin, meets a terrible death, Captain Francis Crozier takes command and leads his surviving crewmen on a last, desperate attempt to flee south across the ice. But as another winter approaches, as scurvy and starvation grow more terrible, and as the Terror on the ice stalks them southward, Crozier and his men begin to fear there is no escape.

possibly my own perception that this was supposed to be a historical account. I'm not a writer but after having read thousands of books I would say that the writing is quite poor

Historia
Acclaimed actress Claire Danes burnishes an epic story of heroes, gods, and monsters in a groundbreaking translation of The Odyssey, the first great adventure story in the Western literary tradition. When the wily warrior-king Odysseus sets off for home after the Trojan War, he doesn’t realize this simple undertaking will become a perilous journey of 10 years. Beset at every turn, he encounters obstacles, detours, and temptations—both supernatural and human—while his wife Penelope fends off would-be suitors desperate to take the throne.

I want an accurate translation, not a woke one
Revisado: 01-28-23
The author spent 45 minutes telling the reader how Odysseus doesn't live up to modern leftist ideals. we all know these things, this is a fictional heroic character from 3000 years ago, and I have no interest in listening to the Odyssey as interpreted by someone who thinks it appropriate to translate it through today's social lens. I think it's a bit presumptuous to say that Odysseus left Calypso to go home because he wanted to reassert control and dominion over Penelope and his house.

Historia
Black Americans have long been shackled to the Democrats. Seeing no viable alternative, they have watched liberal politicians take the Black vote for granted without pledging anything in return. In Blackout, Owens argues that this automatic allegiance is both illogical and unearned. She contends that the Democrat Party has a long history of racism and exposes the ideals that hinder the Black community’s ability to rise above poverty, live independent and successful lives, and be an active part of the American dream.

brilliant, no BS between the pages
Revisado: 04-24-21
It takes courage to give an unpopular opinion, no matter how true. This book flies in the face of leftist propaganda, with all the facts and statistics to back it up. it's unfortunate that the people who need to hear this the most will probably never read it.

repetitive
Revisado: 06-16-20
in the book there are more then likely text blocksthat appear to be screen images for when the main character levels up or receives notifications, and as such it makes sense to include them every time this happens. in the reading however it gets extremely repetitive.

Historia
In The End Is Always Near, Dan Carlin looks at questions and historical events that force us to consider what sounds like fantasy; that we might suffer the same fate that all previous eras did. Will our world ever become a ruin for future archaeologists to dig up and explore? The questions themselves are both philosophical and like something out of The Twilight Zone.
