Not the Doc Savage I remember

The Doc Savage of old doesn't show up, nor does anyone resembling his amazing 5 friends.
It's true, the old Doc Savage novels were formulaic but they were full of astonishing inventions and swashbuckling adventure.
His adventures helped me migrate from comic books to novels. Reading these two books about a new Doc Savage I seriously wondered if co-author Brian Sitts and James Patterson loved the old Doc Savage as I did.

The principal characters were very enjoyable; essentially Nightfall. Great narration! A wonderful read!

I enjoyed the evolution of the king as he matures but kept to his moral compass. Nightfall is one I’ll recommend.

I Had Hoped For More

The bar was set high for Sebastien.
I had hoped for enjoyable characters like in The Greatcoats and Spellslinger series.
I struggled to get through this book but Joe Jameson's narration carried me along.
When none of the characters like each other I struggle to like any of them either.
Where was the witty dialogue that we know Sebastien is capable of?
I'll buy the next in this series, hoping the author I love shows up.
Sebastien, please don't let me down... again... and please give Joe Jameson a raise.

I love Matthew Reilly but this story isn’t among my favorites. I really wanted to love this book but for me the story seemed rushed and the outcomes of Cobalt family members seemed repetitive.
My biggest disappointment was the book not having a stronger narrator.

This book is totally original and a joy to read.
I’ve enjoyed time travel books before but this one has such an unusual point of you couldn’t put it down or should I say stop listening.
I have immediately gone looking for more of the same by Jodie Taylor. I want to be a time traveler too.
