This excellent program usually features leaders from business talking about real experiences and insights . This episode features an advice giving academic.... and rings hollow.

I respect what happened in this podcast but it is not very useful to help anyone prepare to hike the trail.

And interesting lead up to hacking the Appalachian trail. the host of the podcast is a little bit repetitive in both his questioning and statements... which is a wee bit annoying. the lead-up could have been one or maybe two podcasts... but instead it's more than that. I like the story and the twists... but not the advice.

A well written memoir performed by a great narrator. Relaxed, insightful and a great story.... and much more than just an AT memior.

Great books on the AT capture the struggle of the trip, the characters met along the way, and the personal learning and resilience of the author & companions. You will find this in this memoir. Every author also picks who they like and did not... and lets you know. This book was written well after the trip and is more of a recollection than a carefully written selection of experiences... so the stories fall a bit short.... too much of what we did, how much was drank, so and so was "good looking" ... and gets a little catty and repetitive. That said, most books you can find are written from the point of view of an older hiker... this book is a post college memior... so may be just the thing for younger readers.

Lots of good history about early automotive in history. However the author spends far too much time trying to discredit and detract from Henry Ford’s contribution. For sure Henry Ford is imperfect… but almost nothing is said in his favor. Even the authors speculation about events is almost 100% negative about Ford and paints most other characters in positively. …. Even Zthe reprehensible George Selden.

If you want to know what Carlos Ghosn thinks of his situation and treatment by Nissan... and if you want to learn about how laws and prisons work in Japan (of which neither would be acceptable in the West) then get this book. The account of Mr. Gohsn is well written, and the historical and industry context is well researched and very interesting.

The downside is that you hear lots of comments about the other side without their defense... and for sure Mr. Ghosn did things that would have had him (or those in charge of governance at the company) fired. You don't make arrangements with third parties you are doing business with at the company for your own benefit for example... it's inexcusable.

Meanwhile, the core of the matter here is that a criminal accusation is used when in reality, the company should have resolved these issues internally. Other car executives are paid allot? Good for them, that is no reason to condone behavior or justify your position for example.

For sure, Ghosn will go down in history with a positive record, with more wins than losses. But to read this, Ghosn does no wrong and almost everybody else makes bad decisions except for him in this book. Meanwhile, that is not the real situation.

There is no "we" in the book either... it's I,I,I. The Japanese are not perfect, and you see lots of that in this book... but you see know "respect for people" which is a hallmark of great Japanese companies like Toyota.

Another small point - the narrator butchers names all throught the book, which makes it very frustrating to read for those actually engaged in the Automotive business. Vauxhall is pronounced "Vox-Haul" in reality, but "vo-haul" in the audiobook. Painful.

I delayed buying this book, as I knew it would be predictable. I am not sorry I read it... I learned a lot. But I can see why this is not a popular book - it's too one sided, and even with no dissenting opinions, they do not win the case - even if this were to be the only book you read about the scandal.

This book is written like a long version of a poorly informed newspaper article. It is full of negative opinions that are foreshadowed in an opening statement about the subject. It is written by an observer of the auto industry and clearly someone who has never actually worked in it. It is merely a collection of negative stories written about Tesla overtime and published for some reason before the story is even nearly over. This is especially evident when speculations are made about actions that already happened in 2020… I would’ve return this book for a credit… But I thought it more important to keep it so I could write this review

See that picture of Elon Musk on the cover? ... he is not in the book! Overall, the book is OK... with short accounts of early pioneers.... cribbing much of it's content from noted auto historians Beverly Ray Kimes & Charles K Hyde The title says the book is "Volumes I and II" but there is only one book (of any type) on the Amazon or Audible store. Why would you put somebody on the cover who is not in the book? Must be to sell (audio) books. Anyway - it is not worth the audible credit to buy and is likely worth $4.99 vs $20.

No Insight into 5 whys. Production is clumsy...

This is a very high level view of 5 whys, with no insight or ideas on how to do it successfully. Other than a few examples by "Tashi Ohno" (mispronounced by the Trachilis, and the examples are poor) there is no learning here. There is more time spent selling the class series and giving subjective "facts" about that "proper" ratio of learning and doing than teaching you anything about the 5 whys.

The author stumbles through the lecture... and never gives insight into Hosin Kanri. You can interchange annual planning with the Hosin Kanri, because no other insight is given. "At Toyota, they are already doing it." That is not insight.
